I stipped it out monday and it has been sitting with the engine on the piss till today when the bits came. i locked the crank with the pin and took off the rocker cover and put the plate in the end of the cams,

i've just fitted the new cambelt and tryed to start it and it will not start and the engine turns over very very fast got a good sign i fooking shit myslef. so i re pinned the crank and took the rocker cover back off and the plate slides straght back in. witch means its all timed up????

im very confused? does anyone have any ideas what the hell could be wrong with it and why it ran perfecly on monday but refuses to start and turns over fast today???

Are you sure the crank didnt turn after you fitted the new belt as its all held together by the crankshaft bolt.... with the new belt on and tensioned you can still turn the crank even with the locating pin in and the plate holding the cams as its the crank outer pulley that locks up against the inner crank gear ( the one that drives the cambelt ) and holds them all in place.... if you know what i mean !!! Its all because there is no keyway on the crank and the inner crank pulley runs freely !

Does sound like bent valves though if its turning over quickly and not firing

how does the crank lock do u have to turn it untill it hits the web of the crank if so did u turn it clock wise or anti clockwise as this can make a difference do u have a cambelt book

my mate did similair, did compression check after checkking timing which was ok and found no compression, despite having the engine running five mins ago.

took head off and found 16 bent valves, all replaced & lapped in but now it smokes, head off and got it checked, had valve seats cut in properly and another new set of valve seals and it still smokes. now it's having a new bottom end as we suspect a broken ring where the valves made contact!
