Roof
I have the usual rust bubbles coming through behind sunroof. I was thinking about replacing the roof skin to totally eliminate it, but my question is-
Should I replace it with a solid non sunroof roof skin?? as it seems to be the sunroof that causes the problem, and if I did, would it de-value the car and make it less desirable??? its a 1990 S2

My opinion: no and yes.
Don't replace it with a non-sunroof panel as it will devalue the car.
If you replace the panel with a very good condition item then it should last a good time before any new signs of corrosion appear and by then you will prob have moved on to something else.

i had mine done 3 years ago and its not come through yet, in some light you can just see small areas of paint the size of pin heads starting to show but ive only noticed it as ive kept an eye on it. im currently having it done again but this time while the sunroof is out im treating inbetween the roof skin and sunroof tray and then fully painting it all inside then clear waxoiling too.
also i recommend whenever the roof gets wet open the sunroof to give it a good airing to try to dry as much of the moisture as possible.

In june i had mine treated by lead filling, then it was painted and waxoiled all over inside of roof, hopefully that should keep the rust at bay for a few years.I was also told that filling and repainting wouldnt last long at all, hence why i paid the extra to have it lead loaded.
So far im very happy with it.

Yes, but the RST roof design doesn't lend itself to a decent carbon conversion in my opinion. Twins encountered the problem of having a join at the top of the A-Pillar and have to make covers for the A-Pillars to help make that look right.
Personally, I don't much like carbon, so it's not an option for me.
A piece of steel plate and some Stikaflex/screws fixed mine nicely.

wierd how no company has made a roof skin they would sell well, hard to find a rs t with a good roof, thought about cuting out the rot in my old1 and sinking in a plate roof would warp bad and need alot of filler, think 1 prob is alot of rsts have had water leaks over the years etc and with the heaters on etc it rises, and sits on the cold roof
Yes, you're right. The company who are doing Gus's are discussing ways of creating the A-pillars during construction I think - I know it was mentioned on his topic before but don't know whether he's pursuing it further.
