Hi all
My sister lives abroad and has got a 52 reg corsa, which she's having some problems with. This is her email!
I've been having on/off probs with my car whereby it won't start. I get a couple of lights come on on the dash board but they don't all light up, the mile counter thingy doesn't come on and when you have the key in the ignition and the driver's door open I don't get the usual beeping noise you would normally get. The car will turn over but not normally actually start and if it does start it conks out again straight away. I've always got it going again by fiddling with fuses and once it's running it's fine.
John has taken it to see a mechanic he has at work and he reckons it's a problem with the immobiliser. Namely that when I get out the car I double lock it with the key fob....press the button once to lock the doors and then again to activate the immobiliser. This lad reckons the prob might be caused because the battery in my key fob is too weak (it does need changing) to deactivate the immobiliser. The doors get unlocked but the immobiliser still works. He reckons I must then fiddle with the right fuse to deactivate it in the engine and away I go.
I always thought it was caused by bombing it down the motorway at 85mph to work and frying something under the bonnet so next time I jump in it, it says I don't blinkin' well think so missy. It was only because it happended to John when he took it to work yesterday (about 2 miles away from home, through slow town traffic) that I've come to think it's not my fault after all!
Do you think the key fob/immobiser problem is feasible or doesn't it sound likely to you? It's only an occasional problem....99% of the time it starts absolutely fine. It's going for a service on Monday so we'd like some idea so we can mention it to the non-English speaking(?!) people when we book it in.
Anyone got any ideas? I thought perhaps dodgy earth or maybe a relay?
Thanks
Rich

two possiably fixes come to mind!there is a ecu update for immobiliser communication problems !not sure if the garage she is taking it too will have a tech 2 etc?the other one that wil cause this is the wiring harness plug behind the instruments becomes loose!need to remove the instruments put some foam behind the connector to make it more snug fit!
Ok firstly, your sister sounds funny

Secondly, if the car works when she messes about with the fuses then it's more than likely to be a dodgy connection in the fuse box or something imo.
Thirdly, is she fit? Pic's?

Just had this email back from her -
Thank you for your help! I thought it sounds more like a loose connection problem and the dash clocks sounds likely....it might explain why, when I'm driving, they sometimes give up and all read zero even when I'm bombing down the motorway!! The engine still runs fine I just don't know how fast I'm going etc! If this is the case, would it prevent me being able to start the car though?
Like I say, it's going for its major service on Monday so I'm hoping they might plug it into something that might pick something up!! Taking my dashboard apart doesn't sound like fun so I might wait and see what they say on Monday (I'm going to mention the problem to them) and if they come up with something then that's fine but If not then I might have a tinker! We're selling it soon anyway so I don't want to do anything too extreme, I just need to know it'll start at least to allow some poor person who buys it to get it off the driveway and a few miles away before it konks out!!!
Deffo sounds like the dash clocks then!!!
