Yeah was going to say, COOL as they are, and seriously handle on rails i couldn't go from a sorted 3dr to an E30. Would feel like an XR3 in a straight line

But then can see it either way, modding one though... ££££££

Buy one and i'll do a turbo conversion on it for your to bring it up to speed.

330 bhp can be done with just a head gasket.

They are not so slow then and handle much much better than a 3dr.

Personally i think its a no brainer they arent that good to drive , save your pennys & buy one later on i really think you would regret it big time..
After driving them in here i dont see the fuss about them apart from the look amazing .

now we'ere talking..........OM some details over, 2.3 or 2 liter? what other bits required and are they mainstream? do you need to use the HG to alter the Comp at all?

oh and how much

was contemplating sticking another lump in but not sure what else i could go for that doesnt mess up the handling? seen conversions with the 3.5 and V8 now

I personally dont like them to drive or any E30.They handle well for the power they put out.best to try test drive one before you make any decisions about getting rid the 3 door

My engine builder owns this..TB , Motec , 6sp sq box

And i have been looking at them recently as they are the only other trackday car i'd own (within reason)...He drove my 3 door around snett and hates the way his m3 drives now..

Grass aint always greener...

You can do it the cheap way with just a HG and run 12 psi max for 330bhp from stock 2.3 ltrs or put some evo size forged pistons (£400 from states) which will give 2.4 and give potential upto 450-500bhp before you need to look at rods. The heads are awesome and you will never need to spend any money on them.

e30 m3 is one of the most well balanced handling cars ever!!
it can keep up with cossies with double its power and is awesome on the track. on 1st drive you will not be impressed but after getting used to it there nothing like it. proper race car. not really good off the lights etc and difficult to get more power out of them. but very very driveable and even on stock suspension they are lovely.
look hundred times better than 3 doors and built very well!
do what i done, put a cossie into a e30 m3!!

They can be made to be seriously fast, but you're looking at £20k on the engine alone to get 385bhp n/a , with a limited life span before it needs a complete refresh (John said around 1000 laps of the Ring before it needs to be topped and tailed).

Johns M3 must stand him in at £50k to get to his spec and is a seriously fantastic car, but he struggles with noise limits (would never pass a UK track ). It would definitely be cheaper to turbo, but that's not what this car is about.

This is a lottery win type of car, or you would have to be seriously obsessed about E30 M3s (just like we are about Cossies) to spend this kind of money. The thing with John's car, it is a family heirloom, and his Dad originally owned it from new, so he is rather attached to it .

Have you kept in touch with John Mike ?

I was hoping he might be there but he wasn't.

Judging on how little was done to the engine on the RNGTOY I wouldn't say its "that" expensive to fiddle with if your willing to change the engine for the 3.2.

Massively cool cars imo

E30 M3 is a lovely car! My friends got one with 2,5liter evoengine, Catcams, carbon-inlet and so on, should be about 280bhp. Feels quite fast actually, amazing sound and no lag!
Does not have quite the same attitude as the 3door thoug and they rust even WORSE, if you can believe that..

Yes, but I haven't heard from him since July (I'll drop him a mail now to see how he is getting on !). He still seems to want to go for the 2.7 litre crank to achieve 425bhp , but is in a quandry on who to give the task to, as he is still concerned about the usual suspects being up to the job of producing a crank that will be exactly as he wishes (and it is a big investment, as he is having several made ).

Thats good to hear, I can't see a engine being happy at that power level tbh, I'd rather have a bit less and not sacrifice reliability as tbh I can't ever see a 425hp 2.7 unit being reliable, not for any amount of time anwyay.

SUPERB car though, I should of stayed in it till he asked me to get out the handling was simply untouchable.

I know who I would and wouldn't use for a crank for that engine, lot of money upfront but I suspect he'll easily claw back a few quid if he gets 5 or more made

He's in talks with DKE, but is still unhappy with the technical feed-back they are giving him... I told him he should try dealing with Farndon - just ask Dumped .

That conversion didn't cost alot at all. £1200 ish.

Caused a real stir on S14.net. They claimed it just couldn't be done.

But, that doesnt account for any labour. Betwen me and the chap that owned the car we have a fair set of in house skills so thats what kept it cheap.

You will need 3 inch exhaust, new management, intercooler, pipework, and exhaust manifold plus HG fitted.

I'd prefer an ordinary E30 with a 3.6 from the E34 M5. Sex.
