Default Me Likes Sierra Cosworth

Hello all, firstly what an awsome site?! Good to see soo much support Anyways, i'm a man of 23 and saving my hard earned cash for a Sierra Cosworth for when i'm 25 and have a few years no claims (ideally) behind me!
I do love the old 3 door cossies but they're soo much and i doubt i'll have the time or money to restore a tatty one. So i'm thinking the later shape. I don't know much about fords and certainly nothing about Cosworths, i've only ever owned 2 fords, the one i learnt to drive in (5dr 1.1 mk3 fiesta with free dents!) and the car i bought the day i passed my test (88 escort xr3i cab, 2 tone paint job, lowered, exhaust. £130 a month aged 18 under fathers name 3rd party fire and theft!...silly me!!).
There's nothing else like them in my mind. So i was really wondering if anyone could set me off on the right path. What i should be looking for, looking to do and purely avoid!

I've always loved the idea of a cosworth so i want to make it a reality before it's too late. In some ways i wish i was older, there's nothing in my generation that's going to be a long lasting cool car in my opinion. What happened to the Cosworths, Celica GT4's, Supra's, Renault 5 Turbo's, proper Golf GTi's, VR6's etc This to me was when the car market was exciting, but i was too young to enjoy!
Anyway any help and advice would be much appreciated and when i finally get it, i'll put the pictures up!

just make sure you buy the best you can afford n not the first 1 you go to c like i did

Get a nice unmolested example thats stage 1 at the most with low miles or recent engine re-build with reciepts .................... wash, polish and enjoy it with regular servicing and get it checked over and set up at a tuner asap...............then if its all good look after it and enjoy the drive and thumbs up you will get from admirers

Make sure you have money in the bank after buying it cos they DO cost you money in the ownership

Some good advice there. A stage 1 cossie is still a quick car for a 23 year old and should be very reliable IF you get it set up properly. You can drive them hard but don't abuse them and they can be reliable. I've had my stage 1 for nearly 2 years and it does get driven hard sometimes and it's never had anything go wrong (touch wood) except a new waterpump when the old one got noisy. Good luck

had a stage 3 cossie for 5 years ...
all i replaced was the standard turbo... 3 bar map sensor and the water temp sender ... along with a few other mods ... did a fair few track days and never had any problems as such...
just looked after it .
you wont regret ownng one, just have a back up fund available to mod it

oh and welcome to the site
