are 4x4 and 2wd heads different?

as above can i use a 4x4 head on a 2wd cossie?

They are different but they are interchangeable

Thermostat housings are differemt, you'd need to mod a 2wd head for a 4x4 stat housing cant mind if you need to mod it the other way about though

you can use a 4x4 head on a 2wd bottom half as i have , everything bolts on but it will raise the compression ratio to around 8.3.1

And ive doen the opposite, rwd head on a 4wd bottom end.

4x4 head has the turbo oil feed coming out the exhaust side of it, cams and bearings are different i think, 2wd thermo housing will bolt straight on, well mine did anyway, also if i remember right the 4x4 head hasnt got the turbo damper mounting point casted on the side of the head like the 2wd one.

Thats correct about the turbo damper, thats rwd heads only.

Mine has a 4x4 head on a 2wd bottom but also put the 4x4 fuel rail on.

I would not unless the 4x4 head is of a std height due to increased comp ratio

can be overcome a little by using a thicker gasket ie a cometic
