Lightbulb Turbo question

I am still wondering which turbo to choose for my ROAD cossie. Car will be used everyday, but will be used also on nasty hill climbs (car has group a coilovers, group a brakes, 4.44 diffs, ...) but don't wanna go extreme with engine power.

What I am interested in is MID-RANGE TORQUE. Which turbo would suit the best this use ? Of course will have antilag, but also water-injection to keep EGT down.

Should I stay with a T3 but heavily modded, go for a T34 0.48 or maybe GT turbos ? I really do not know. Don't wanna go to more than 350bhp (to save the gearbox, as I have DOME front diff and Quaife, but std gearbox), but want as much torque as possible, and as low in rpm as possible.

Ideas, suggestions and advices welcome !

T3 wont do 350 i wouldnt have thought.

Chip got a nice maram shafted T34 which will do 350 easy and cope with ALS.

Problem is that while a GT28 would be ideal, you will break it with als so its not an option..

The T34 with 0.63 is a nice option (have one in stock with maram shaft too but don't know yet if I should use it or not), but what is the rpm range for this turbo ? Is there any way (other than Mike's bearing mod) to improve it ?

T34 .48 is spot on, no lag, and mental with the ALS too.

Bear in mind that torque is likely to be what kills your gearbox far more than out and out power anyway.

So if you end up with 400lbft @ 3K rpm, expect the gearbox to die a horrible death if you use that torque in 3rd gear!

Yes of course torque is what kills the gearbox in most cases, and yes 3rd gear is usually the one which goes bang first, but I wanna try first how far can I go with it and when it break will get a decent gearbox.

400lb/ft is the aim yes, and at 3000 it would be fine. However I'm afraid the 0.48 (the greatest one for low rpm torque) just won't cope with agressive antilag, as EGT will go too high, even with water-injection. Has anyone ever had that setup (T34 with agressive antilag and water-injection) ?

Will use 803s anyway, with fully std engine, so I don't think I will be able to push more than 350bhp with the 803s. 30psi-32psi should produce the wanted 400lb/ft I think.

Again, a table with the rpm range of the 0.48 0.55 and 0.63 exhaust housing would be very much welcome.

Ive used a T34.48 with around 40psi of anti lag at 3K rpm

It died fucking horribly straight away

I ran a .48 T34 with very agressive ALS for a fair while and even with the EGT going well off the gauge, it was never a problem. Neither was it on the .63.
.48 or .63 shouldnt make fook all difference to how it will live, its just a housing change.

Turbo did about 15k on the whole I reckon, 30psi held boost too.

Temperatures will be higher on the .48

I doubt it will be a big issue though.

Interesting points there !

So will keep my group a T34 with 0.63 and see how it goes with it.
