i have been starting to look into fitting a mtx75 box into my escort. Have spoke to a couple of local companys regarding custom shafts. Ive been told that they would be extremely expensive, but if welded properly, they could be as strong as a single piece shaft.... I was told the if the two bits were welded, then a sleve put over the weld, and then that welded It would be extremely strong. Then balanced.
Does this sound right?
cos i think it sounds a little dodge........

have to be done professionally and balanced after like a prop im sure
get the spline count and see if you can make a set, i remember asking shaftec about it and they said they would try and fit a different cage to a cv joint to see if that would match up
aint working there anymore so cant find out as i never had a need to try but its a option

it sounds right to me prop shafts have welded joints on them and thay have to cope with a lot of strain (torqe) like on vans, so on a car it would be fuck all (welded properly) the way i look at it
back in the day my old man stuck a 2.2 granada engine in his anglia rally car. he had to weld up the shafts etc, and didnt have any problems with it.
he said in the early 70's it was one of the fastest cars around and he very rarely found anything that could keep up lol. he also rolled the thing about 8 times and it kept going
they dont make em like they used to lol
if its done properly it will be ok. if not, they will snap lol

cut them to length, clean them up on a lathe and insert a dowell to keep everything central. 'v' out the join and weld them together, grind down the weld and slide a sleeve over the top and weld that to both halves
try breaking that fooker

Right ive had a set custom made by Dave mac prop shafts (actually two sets) as im a fucktard with a measure
To have a set of custom shafts made to length with the appropriate splines on either end, then heat treated will cost you all in £500.
These will not fail on you.
I looked at the cut and welded route but prices were not far of the above and with the intended usage I dont want a failure!
However rather than just measure like i did 1st time, i would advise you cutting the old shafts and making some dummy shafts to length and fit.
Once your happy it fits etc call Davemac propshafts roughly 2 weeks turnaround too.
