I've got a 150, check the engine is a ARL, the 150 will be a tad lower as well as they are GTI springs as standard, also the boot sticker should say 110kw

As above.

Quick way is the inlet hose runs down past the belt then goes accross the front of the engine to the dipstick area.

PD 130 goes down towards the headlight area on the OS

HTH

Oh and the 150s are prone to the cam seizing in the head!

yeah the cam problem is common, will be changed under warranty if you kick up enough fuss.

it's the lifters that are weak and cam puts a hole in them!

No bottom pic is 130. Going from what you are saying the car you're looking at is a 130.

its the sharrons that have the TDI rule, all other cars are just luck OR if its been replaced your fucked anyway

engine code is the most important way to tell, its the first 3 letters of the engine number on the log book ( not the car)

The 130 is a better car all round, as it hasn't got the camshaft prob, re-map will take it to around 165bhp

If you are looking for a 150 model speak to Rob from SCC (01727 867747), he has a 150 "02" plate 3 door modded to just over 200bhp and still delivers 44mpg, also has the anniversary wheels and kit. It's also had the cam changed in the last few months as it did exactly what has been mentioned above, I know he was thinking of selling a few weeks ago.

There is a sticker in the boot, underneath the capret. This tells you the engine code, power etc. That is the easiest way. Hope that helps.

Go for the 130 and get it remapped.

After having my 130 remapped it produces 175 bhp / 275 lbs ft torque and still aveages 49 mpg.

Why do ppl think the 130 is a better car?? The 150 has FMIC, bigger turbo therefore much better for modding etc.

I've had mine for 3 years now covered over 65k and never had any problems with cam (remapped miles). I've changed the oil every 10k and never had a problem with cam or turbo. Recently I've started modding for further power - see sig for further info.

I would def recommend the 150 - speaking from experience.

I only say 130 due to the cam probs, my cam was changed by previous owner so no experience in them going personally just the reading up i done before buying.

150 FTW tho

I have a 150 BHP TDI and it ate the cam after 80,000 mile,I wouldnt mind, but it was always serviced correctly, every 6-8,000 miles, using the correct Castrol SLX oil, which I might add cost a poxy fortune,(virgins p*ss would be cheaper)!!!!!Anyhow up to the cam failure I loved the car,but now Ive lost all faith in it,and VW's for that matter. It was my 1st VW,I guess I got sucked in by all the hype about the build quality!!Never again!!Regards,Micky

The PD 130 and PD 150 is pretty much the same engine. Its my believe ppl dont change often enough resulting in these cam problems. I know VW have long life servicing (20k) but I think if you want hassle free motoring change the oil every 10k.

I'm guessing they are used for holding the boost pipes on. With age the lugs on the pipes get worn out which cause the pipes to slip off with boost.
