He had a problem with a blown alternator that was threatening to leave him short of electrical charge to limp home with, and had what sounded like a blow gasket on a couple of cylinders.
Awesome car though and top attitude
He arrived after the long drive from ireland through scotland and ran a couple of 200ish runs back to back and neither got recorded, knackering the alternator in the process and having to charge his car off Rod Tarry's son's van between runs, then he had a boost pipe blew off on the run it did record so it shows only 175 or so, and then had some sort of mechanical failure in the engine, he removed the plugs and injector wiring from those 2 cylinders, and set off home on 6 cylinders with no charging, stopping to swap batteries out on the way, and he was STILL smiling.
Awesome competitor, and very cool car
Steve's car is such a great car & an awesome achievement. Is it still fully trimmed? Last time I saw it there wasn't much to look at externally until I saw under the bonnet
It does some amazing times & it isn't the most aerodynamic shape lol.
Organisation wasnt terrible, but for 125 quid (IIRC) Id have been dissapointed at running only to not get times due to poor equipment that apparently couldnt hack a bit of wind, and that they seemingly didnt do enough to correct the faults with. (windbreak perhap? not rocket science surely!)
cool event though, lets hope they sort out the issues

still got the full velour green interior with wood trimming, only interior changes are the seats and a few more gauges and wires/switches etc

i thought it launches pretty fookin well for a 24year old motor , and it has enough grip to twist the body and try to lift a wheel off the line !! fuckin awesome motor . especially when u consider it was all built by himself as a hobby (obsesion lol) .
Thanks guys.....and good to meet you.
Im pretty much only home right now, thanks to the AA.
There were little delays between drop off's, but I have to say their service was 100%, taking me right to my door.
I was for driving home....but anyone who heard it....well....a "friendly" policeman heard it too, and decided I shouldnt drive home lol.
Worked out ok anyway. Hope safely, and didnt even use a drop of fuel
200 did show on the rear wheel speed sensors, but they are not 100% accurate.
Front undriven wheelspeed showed 195mph on the first run, and my SatNav said 196mph. As soon as I hit second gear though, the newly fitted alternator 2 days ago, decided it didnt want to charge anymore !!!!
Second run, and my best showed undriven wheelspeed of 198.3mph..
I would take undriven wheel as an accurate speed, as I had spent more time calibrating it against GPS on the road.
Third run saw a boost pipe blow off, with quite a pop !!
Fourth run wire to crank sensor broke.....temporary bodge got me back to the its, where Rod kindly allowed me to steal from wiring from his car to effect a repair.
Fifth run was going well....got up to a wheelspeed of 192.3mph, then the head gasket popped before the line. So THE ONLY F**KING speed recorded by the organisers the entire day, was that one, which they had at 191mph.
This all over their STANDING 7/8th MILE !!!! Those damn rabbits
I've no doubt once I get a few issues resolved, 200mph in 1 mile wont be a problem.
Fairly happy with the weekend despite my problems. Not one bit happy with the timing gear, nor the distance.

LOL, yeah I can see why a copper might have objected!
Ah well, at least you got home ok, and you can buy a new gasket with the money saved in fuel!
fingers crossed when you rip the heads off that there isnt piston damage etc!

If only..but given the blowby, I am fearing some damage.
Steve when we came by you in the van it sounded terrible so not surprised you got stopped.
How did you keep smiling when they did 3 no times , think i would have mown the timing lights down on the next run.
You were my tip to win & when you saw 196 gps I thought perhaps you might make it, but that Skiline was fast thats for sure.
I usually back down when launching, for fear of breaking traction. Its amazing how much grip some tyres etc can offer though !!!
That pic is almost a WOT 5000rpm launch. I did let off slightly, to maybe 50-65% throttle though. I didnt keep it 100%
By comparison....at Elvington, Woodbridge, or worse Crail or the road. I can hardly touch the accelerator in 1st or 2nd....and for the latter pair 3rd gear also, and thats with 888's
On normal road tyres....1-4 have traction issues on a good dry road lol
