A guy on Ebay is selling a RHD dashboard with a passengers side airbag, stating that they are rare as only 26 were made. I was wondering if anybody knows if he's correct. If not, approximately how many came with 2 airbags? I'm curious, because mine has both. Does it make them any rarer?

 

Mine has both, doubt its rare. Sure the Lux spec included twin airbags.

no, twin airbags were an option, as was leather & aircon!
a lot of people think that all LUX versions had leather, they didn't, just a lot took the option.

 

AFAIAA all late model Escort Cosworths had twin airbags (1996 onwards) - mine has leather, (had) aircon and twin airbags.

 

Mine is a 1996 lux with leather and aircon but only drivers airbag.

 

Perhaps it is date of build rather than registration?

I'm sure Paul Ripley could clarify for sure .

On second thoughts, given some of the BS the guy selling it told me, maybe I don't want to know. Think happy happy Cosworth thoughts. Close my eyes, block my ears with my hands and go La La La, and it's all good.

You're right to be curious - its a load of total fooking bollocks. I've seen loads of Escossies with a passenger airbag. The one I've got at the moment has it.

Don't you just love it when people say shit like that to try and make out stuff is really rare. Its a case in point that the passenger airbag section of the dash is removable and can be replaced with the equivalent part from any Mk5 Escort dash. They didn't make two types of dash, with and without the airbag.

By the way I've got some ultra rare genuine Cosworth engine oil for sale - only been in the car 3000 miles.

I'm pretty sure they are an option Microcat states they where availible from 08/1993 -01/1995 so early ones would deffinelty not have them.

Whether they became standard at some stage I don't know? does anyone have a small turbo with one?
