Default TYRES (Toyo's)

Calling all the Tyre experts.

Whats better?

TOYO Proxes PX4

or

TOYO Proxes T1R

Does any one if any of them have disadvantage or advantages to each other?

Went threw 8 T1Rs in 6 months (225 50 15), found it a very grippy tyre, only went through them so fast because i was using them as a track tyre as well. Not tried the other toyo's.

the t1rs are less soft than the px4s. I have had both, the px4s are amazinging grippy but will only last a few track days, i never had the t1rs on track but they were great on the road.

when you say Track Days, do you mean full days or random sessions at Shows?

I like the tread pattern on the PX4's and there only couple of quid dearer than the t1R's, just wondered if there was much difference?

PX4's are decent tyres, easily shredded on the track though, same for the T1Rs tbh both good road tyres, the px4s are the newer pattern though

neither will last long on track.

the T1Rs are great budet tyres, but will be outperformed in pretty much every aspect by the proper branded tyres.

but for 50quid a corner you can't really go wrong

yeh i swear by F1's, had a set on my rondells for 4 years and sold them with still 3-4mm on them, but having a fair bit of engine work done to, so though id be able to save a bit of wonger in this area.

i wanted to pose the question on toyo tho and they are still a respected tyre but cheaper.

having used both i'd say the toyos are probably false economy. the F1s will outperform and outlast them.

thing is if you fuck the tyre (puncture etc.) then the fact that they outlast them is irrelevant.

i went thru about 3 SETS of tyres in a year due to punctures, blowouts, and bad wear (poor camber, wore insides)

In short BOLLOCKS!

T1-R's (and the 888 track tyre) are extremely good tyres. I do track days & occasional competition stuff and hardly have a car with only 2bhp.

Whilst T1-R's are not a track tyre (for that I use 888's) they are certainly competant. They are also not a budget tyre, they are a mid-range brand.

If people learnt a bit more about the relevance of tyre pressure, geometry and not to scrub tyres, especially on track, they would probably get more out of their tyres.

fagin, its not bollocks it's a budget tyre i mean 50quid for a tyre? thats NOTHING!

i tend to ignore the likes of £15kwikfit specials

yes there are undoubtedly good value for money, but if youre after quality not price then they're overshadowed by the big boys

Jim,
They might be £50 for your shopping trolley, but they aint £50 for my car..... and neither are they for most people that run wheels that are actually wide enough to ensure the car can pull the skin off a rice pudding with traction.

Jtechsaff,
I would not use any normal road tyre for a full on track day and expect them to last.... that is what the likes of 888's and Dunlop 01's and 02's are for.

G1EN,
Give the Toyo's a go, they are very good imo. You have 4WD, unlike Jim who is trying his hardest to get any form of grip through his rear barrow wheels. You will be fine.

so an r88 will out last a t1r or t1s for track use, why is that out of interest, is it to do with the stiffness of the sidewalls, and temp that the tyres can run at?

I have the t1r's on my escos, so far lastest 10000 miles with plenty of tread left. Not had a problem with them on the road wet or dry, can't tell you what they are like on the track though

Update - Ordered the T1R's, but the webiste i use to get tyres (cos they are cheaper than anywhere ive been to for tyres, even after getting them fitted).

Althought i got an e-mail after syaing they had no T1R's in stock and offered me the PX4 for the same price, so i said yeh go for it.

I wont be doing andy full track days on these days, like previously said, maybe a 15-20 sessions at Ford Fair, regional days etc etc.

TOYO's are by no means a Budget tyre. Enduro, nankang, federal are budget tyres.

I just paid £83 a tyre (normally £86 for the PX4's), where the budgets i mentioned above were in the region of £50 - £60 (So i say they are the budgets. lol

anyway.... Much appreciated on the reply's fellas, all were very useful in my decision.

Since JIm would rather mock than help you out with info (does he not know lol).....

888's have stronger sidewalls than the T1-R's, although if you used the T1-R's on track just whack more air in them to stiffen them up a bit..... it will make a big difference. The grip levels between 888's and T1-R's (or any normal road tyre) is like chalk and cheese on track (assuming it is dry).

As with most softer compound track tyre with a slicker tread pattern, you have to be very careful of heat.... too much heat and the tyre will go off very quickly and you will end up destroying it. Keep an eye on tyre pressures and adjust your driving style to be smoother.... they can last ages if treated well.

I have heard many people say "these track tyres are crap and go off so quickly". That is because they have no comprehension to what tyres pressures they should be running and drive like a cock being too aggressive on steering etc. You would be surprised how much quicker and tyre sympathetic a good driver can be. If you're scrubbing your tyres, you are losing traction and going no where fast.
