Default Why have i got a sensor cable tied to my battery box?

Hi all

On my st170, was poking around under the bonnet the other day and I noticed there is some sort of sensor cable tied to the battery box. Its a gold colour, has a thread on one end and a wire attached to the other.

I'll post a pic of it when I get home, but am just a little curious as to what it is

Cheers all!

Rich

My missus 2.0 Ghia has got exactly the same thing your on about. I dunno if they ever use it for diagnostics or summat, but i think most 1.8 & 2.0 petrols have them?

It does look like a spare sensor of some sort plugged into a spare bit of loom!

I've had them on both of my ST170s and every single one i've worked on has it.

Doesn't flag an OBD error under scanning whether it's unplugged or not...

Bizarre...

it is a underbonnet temp switch, apparently ford had probs with engine fires so i think this cuts fuel if it gets too hot!
