Default Can I weld the wastgate shut for an ext one?

as above, really fance having a screamer pipe on my car, I know its a bit boyracer but the noise is awsome of them. I dont want to mess about sourcing a new turbo as mine has only dome 2k and is a stage 3. Can I simply weld the wastgate shut, bin the actuator and install an external wastgate in the carrier???

(please dont take the piss out of me.lol)

Technically yes, but it's not a great idea.

lol sad i know, why would it be a bad idea though? I though external wastgate allowed mroe control over boost pressures?

It's not just the fact you have an external gate (if used incorrectly or the wrong spec, you can have worse boost control).. but a turbo without integral wastegate flows differently.. which you wont have.

can be done, seen an xr2 reach 240bhp on the rollers using a cossie t34 with wastegate welded shut and external wastegate coming off the manifold.

my t34 has had the internal gate welded , and i have an external turbonetics evolution fitted to the manifold , with a so called screamer pipe fitted. it wastes to a 25mm pipe which exits right next to the turbo downpipe on the bend before the sump

sounds awesome at high boost (1.5bar) , but would be a bastard for everday use , plus i have a dump valve fitted which makes long trips a headache

fitting switchable boost to this setup is easier though , and i doubt the standard internal gate would work with my sized turbo , the port is tiny and would probably give serious creep

my xr3 is a drag toy only though , so i can live with it

with a screamer pipe is it really loud all the time or just when you are on boost? if it is safe to weld the gate shut them im dying to have a go, would make the car a little unique and stand out from the crowd. I love the noise of wastgate chatter but that isnt good for the turbo so im stuck with the dump valve at the mo. Every man and his dog has one.lol

if you use a screamer pipe on the roads in the UK you should expect to get nicked pretty quickly

Screamer Pipe sucks. Mine has its own exhaust with a silencer in it.
