Yes, the Mk4 came out in 1986 about June/July iirc so prior to the August that the D plates were released.

or it could be a converted MK3 that LOADS where done also due to rust ect ect ect

my mate had one on a b plate

 

I had a c plate mercury grey mk4 xr3i. it was the best specced of all three that ive owned. It had leccy windows leccy mirrors and abs. Well aparently ford said it was abs but i dont agree lol
was quite swift as well from memory.

I also had a pink one. well red but only after a t cut lol, that was a D plate

they both had more charedter that the efi one i had

These were the first of the Mark 4's don't think I've seen any on a C plate I know my Grandad had a D Reg Escort L.

 

i had a mk4 c plate years ago so they are out there.

 

100% Yes, Skeleton keys, no arch liners and some odd mk3 engine bay bits on my mates old one...
