Default missus 206 diesel help please??

the missus 206 2.0 diesel on a 02 plate. has started to rattle .(not knock or alike ) its a proper rattle sounds asif comeing from lowdown engine/gear box.

she took it to a few garages and all of them are saying differant things (very costly things) one said cam belt . one said water pump. one said tappits ect and really there just after her money . well my money really. im not prepaired to pay 400+ if they cant even tell me what it is .

has anyone had this prob or heard of a known rattle fault on it . if i can do the repair i will dont really want to pay out 400+ which could reslut in it not being resolved just lots of new parts that arnt really needed .

my personal opinion sounded like thrust bearing.

it dont afftect the way it drives at all . just a rattle sound.

many help would be much appreciated.

Yeh - think I've heard of this - am sure it was a tensioner that fails on the cambelt route - certainly worth getting looked at cos if that fails & it snaps your cambelt then you are fooked!!

It'll be the bottom pulley. They fail on all those engines.

I own a 406 hdi. definatley bottom pully. They have really comedown inprice lately too. used to be a main dealer only part. You can get them anywhere now

They are a cushion drive type thing and it fails. Have a look for tiny metal shards around the pull area and on the block.

I replaced mine with a 2006 spec item and it looks different and i beleive is a solid item rather than what used to be on it

i would only use an OE part, it defo is the bottom pulley making the knocking noise they are 2 metal bits bonded together with rubber and it perishes and fails, causing them to come loose from each other and knock!

a none genuine item wont last 12 monts so false economy!
