Default Road Tax

saw this on another forum

I would like to save you all some money

I have just looked at the cost of renewing my road tax for the next couple of years in the light of the Governments "gas guzzling" tax hikes.

My annual road tax is currently £210, it is going up to £300 from 1/4/2009 and from 1/4/2010 to a massive £430 for a years road tax.

My advice...

If your road tax is due for renewal by the end of August 2008 then do NOT renew it for 12 months. Go for 6 months instead.

If you renew for six months you will have another renewal to make prior to the new rates coming into effect from 13/3/2009. At that stage you should renew for 12 months since it will still be at the current low rates.

Based on my calculations if I do this, over the next 2.5 years my road tax will cost £625 compared to a 3 year annual renewal cost of £940.

I accept I will be 6 months out of sync but I will have saved £315 which more than covers the missing 6 months tax.

The savings will depend on your car and its CO2 emmissions.

Check out your own car at http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/road-tax/ to see what your road tax bills will be.

If you have more than one car or several vehicles in your business...you do the maths. No-brainer.

Nice little tip, ive actually thought about this myself, but im sure the government will bring in some stupid rule to stop people doing this no doubt.

What i really dont get is a Y plate 2.2 vectra is £185-£185-£200 (based over next 3 years), but a 51 plate 2.2 vectra is £210-£300-£310!!!!!!!!!! Its the same bloody engine and produces the same bloody CO2 so trying to say its all about gas guzzling and all this saving the planet bollocks, is just that.....BOLLOCKS!!!!!!!

thanks for reminding me i have an 02 sri150 and was thinking of selling but no-one will buy it!!

already though of the tax for 6 months and then 12 months as a way of saving tax money, although hopefully they will review the new tax bands as a lot of people are not happy about being hit on cars they already own.

plus i hope they realise that the only way to cut CO2 is to STOP using cars altogether

Its a proven fact that cars have hardly any effect on Co2 levels, its the actual production of cars thats the problem, which is why they should be doing more to encourage people to keep older cars and scrap less cars.

Its also a proven fact WILDLIFE produces more Co2 than CARS!!!! So get rid of all the wildlife, and then we can all have free car tax.

methane is the main problem from farting cows no research has been done into how much a night out and a curry affects global warming lol.Watch this space there will be a fart tax at a tax off near you soon.
There have been theories put forward that the dinosaurs caused the ice age that made them extinct with their methane farts

yeh thats my point sort of, if they want to get rid of CO2 produced by cars then get rid of cars as we know them not cut it down by a certain meaningless percentage as it will have no effect, but back to point made why should people be taxed on cars which they already own, it should be a choice made by people buying new cars as i did with my fiesta 18 months ago!!

also its cows and like that make huge amounts of CO2 not wildlife, i dont think brid droppings count towards it

is that because you can't spell brontosaurus roflol
it is plant eaters that give off the most methane so all sad environmental veggies should pay more tax
