what exactly does it mean, whats exactly shady about its past?

is it to the extent of being written off, or something more mild as stolen/recovered.

or none of the above

 

Vcar is Vehicle Condition Alert Register which to my understanding is that it has been registered as damaged and repaired but to what extent will vary.......CatA is bad Cat d not so bad...

 

when you hpi a car it checks info held and say you car has been stolen recovered or written off in the past it will show up same as if a plate change,colour change imported etc, them 3 quid checks may not reveal everything though.
