Default escort gti poor idle running

My sister has a 1997 escort GTI nad its been running lumpy and missfireing, or "juddery" then clears and is fine for a bit.
she is doing part time in a garage to get to the the ins and outs of cars, they have changed oil/filter, fuel filter, plugs, leads, been on fault diags and brings up no fault codes,
any ideas

will tell them to check it thanks. Is it right that you can tell if its ok by moving the throttle by hand and if TPS clicks just as throttle is moved its ok??

Only thing I can think of is an air leak, but that would normally show up as a lean mixture on the fault codes.

If you want to try the substituting the TPS I've got a good used one here, the number on it is 95BF 98989. You can have it for whatever it costs to post.
However, I suspect if it was the TPS it would come up with a fault code.

if its anything to do with idling then id go with the TPS.

when i had a GTi it was hunting, and it would idle at 2-3k, i changed the ISCV and it didnt make a difference, replaced the TPS and i didnt have any more probs for the following year.
I know its not your EXACT description but still to do with idling.

I'd say tps aswell unless the ICV hasnt been changed either. Zetec engined escorts are a fooking nightmare for idle issues. Ive not had one mk6 out of about 7 that hasnt had some sort of idle issue at some point in its life. And it seems once u get it, its very hard to get rid of no matter how many parts u replace in my experience.

A fualty ECU is very rare, they do go wrong but rarely. Are you sure you trust this autoelectrician?

I would clean the inside of the ISCV with some carb cleaner and also make sure the electrical connection to the ISCV is clean. That will probably sort it.
