Default Does anyone know....

....if the oil in a car engine (petrol) goes above 100degree's is knackered?

Reason for my question is had a blast in my other car (golf gti 8v) and the temp for the oil went to 102degree's, does this mean the oil has burnt/overheated and not as good now?

Very unlikely that the oil has overheated at 102. However, it does depend on what type and grade of oil used and how old the oil is in the engine.

if 102 is ok then when will oil be knackered? 108degree's? or above? i did see a link somewhere for the oil temps etc but i can't find it.

My xr4i used to hit 130C regularly, but was fully synthetic.
