I am currently zetec'ing the mk3 and have a problem with the engine fouling the brake servo!!! (big cylindrical black box thing with vaccum pipe) lol

this is because the inlet+exhaust manifolds are on opposite sides!!

what are my options here... how easy is it to move this and relocate it (for example on the opposite side of the bulkhead) or are there any other things i can buy to save the hassel??

any ideas+as much info as possible will be appreciated

 

and out of interest, can i fit a different servo for example from a mk1 escort which is smaller in diameter (probably resulting in a lower assistance) but some at least (better than not having one!)

 

did i get you right ? Is the servo itself bumping into your engine? Or is it just connecting the pipe thats the problem? can you please post a pic so maybe i can give you some proper help?

 

yes if you can find a smaller dia one with the same fixings then job done

just cos there smaller don't mean the ratio is different you find that the small dia versions are deeper check a hanyes manual for ratios

any product codes of the bmw ones and where to get em??
also ill get pics tomorrow. the carbs will hit the brake servo. as in the brake servo will be in the way of the carb body.
erm engines goin in tomorrow! ill post some pics up of what the problem area is

 

As said remote servo it, fords have used these for years, ie corsair etc were remote.
Servo size/surface area of diaphragm dictates assistance, depth will not alter anything as vacuum does not act on depth but surface area.
