Default RS Turbo headlights not working !!!

Need some help - lights on my RS have now decided not to work.

At present the side lights work n/s and o/s and the main beam works n/s and o/s but the dipped (normal drving) beam does not on either n/s or o/s.

The bulbs are fine so what can it be ?

I assume it must be one of the folllowing

1) The wiring ! I assume this is not the problem as I would expect one side to work and one not work as I beleive each light is on a seperate circuit and would be a bit strange for both sides to go at once.

2) The indicator/light switch ! Possible - i have tried another switch which is old but as far as I know works and the problem is still there.

3) The relay on the back of the light switch ! Possible as I do not have another to test with.

4) The white relays/fuses in the fuse box ! Again as there are two relays I would expect maybe one side to work and one not too - again would have to be pretty unlucky for both sides to go at once.

Any ideas based on the symptoms as to what it is most likely to be ?

p.s. I may have answered my own question above but would appreciate some feedback to either confirm or deny !

I have taken the cowling off to get to the indicator / light switch. When exposed I can hear the relay on the switch clicking when i play with the white relays in the fuse box.

I have checked all fuses in the fuse box and also the bulbs and all are good.

I assume that the problem surely lies with either the white relays or the relay on the back of the switch. I have some spare white relays and have tried them - no difference !

I am waiting for a switch relay to turn up so cant test that yet but apart from that I cant see what else it can be - given that neither o/s or n/s work i guess its not the white relays as there is one for each side of the car - the only item that controls both lights at once is the switch / switch relay - hopefully this will solve the problem

I had this problem old my old s2, the fuse boxes are crap and mine melted where the white relays go, have a look where the relays fit on the panel makesure all connections and terminals are free from the green corrosion stuff and that its all clean and dry, i just fitted my own relay so i just did away with the ford ones and ran all wires through one relay tucked under the dash. If you took your car to an auto electritian he should only charge you an hours labour to fit, just check everything yourself like fuses, relays, and connections that way it might not cost you as much

I had that same problem! In the end I gave the contacts a good scrape and bent the relay terminals a bit for better contact, worked fine ever since!

The relay on the light stalk is the indicator relay and the indicator clicker. The white ones under the bonnet are the light ones, do they click when you turn the lights on and off? Is there power at the fuse when you turn the lights on?

Problem solved - in the end it was just a dodgy contact in the fuse box - gave it a scrape to clean up the contact and twisted the relay contacts slightly to make a better contact and then "there was light" !!!

One less thing to worry about - just another 50 niggly little probs to worry about now lol - dont you just luv the S2 !!

Thanks for all the comments from everyone - appreciated.

CheeRS everyone

got this prob myself now, only got 1 white relay tho as per pic. checked bulbs and are fine, tested the relay with multimeter and is clicking and has power so that 1 is fine, fuses all look in tact, anbody think of ewt else, remember as above its just the main beam and when on main beam u cant have dip or flash beam, but u can when your on side lights , so that how i get to work evrynite now with dip on whilst on sidelights lol.
