Default S1 Front Suspension.

My RST has the Turbo Tehnics front suspension set-up, which is excellent and there is no real need for me to change to anything else, but as I am now looking at fitting an MTX gearbox, there is a significant benefit in terms of gearbox mounts.

So, if I were going to fit S1 stuff, whats the best way to go? I know some of the bits are obsolete and that MEF do some stuff too. I have Gaz Golds too, I presume these will fit OK still?

I'm a bit ignorant as I haven't ever really looked closely at an S1 underneath.

Anything mate. Any pics would help. I'm sure its fundamentally the same as what I have, but I suppose a photo of the crossmember and how the gearbox mounts as standard would be a help.

Seriously mate, just take a couple of pics of what you have, that would help me. I just need to visualise in my head roughly where I am heading.

It's a complete Cast Alloy crossmember (powder-coated in white, although that was done a few years ago) with Alloy Anti-Roll bar and adjustable arms. I had the brackets remade from Alloy and hard-anodised in Black. Fitting it with a set of adjustable TCA's from someone like MEF will give you masses of potential for front-end adjustment (I might even sell it with my TCA's, depending on what I do).

It is basically what Turbo Technics developed to retro-fit to Mk4's that they converted to bring the suspension up to a good level.

Mine is in exceptionally good condition, all the adjustable parts are excellent and all move. Mostly with this type of set-up, they are grotty and rank.

I will also be selling my Koni's too I would imagine.

hi there mate, i def want it, ive already got gaz coilovers waiting to go on mine so its the rest of the suspension setup im wanting to sort out. i was already looking at mef adjustable TCA`s but if you decide to sell them too id have the whole front end setup from you, like i said ive got cash waiting for the parts as the suspension is the next thing on my list of things i want to do so if you can give me first refusal on these id appreciate it as i can then concentrate on the rear end knowing the front end is sorted.

have you got any pictures of yours you could send me via pm ????.

thanks again mate

all the best

dave

PMSL.

I need to find an S1 rear gearbox mount bracket now, then hopefully I'm there. Once I can all this new stuff bolted up and checked, then I can let my bits go, but on account of how hard the TT stuff is to find, I'm not letting it go until I am 100% certain that the new kit is sorted.

A TT set-up sold on Ebay about 5 weeks ago for about £90 odd quid afaikr.

I was watching it but didn't need it - was just interested as it went with some S1 stuff I think.

Good luck with the mods Christian

Will have a look if I have a spare rear 3 legged triangular mount - but it will have been raced or rallied lol

I'd keep mine for £90, no questions.

As for the rear mount, I will be replacing the actual gearbox mounts, so as long as the metal aspect of it is OK, I'm sure it'll be fine.

It wasnt advertised as a TT set up Christian which is why it went cheap.

The picture shown was a TT alloy frame with S1 tie bars, a 16i setup and a std S1 set-up.

Someone got a bargain.
