my mate has a mark 3 escort s1` replica.weve put a 1.6 carb engine in.but used standard 4 speed 1.1 gearbox.gearbox has now gone.i know mark 4 gearboxes wont fit.do mark 5 or 6 gearboxes fit as thats wot ive been told.because its going to be really hard to find a good box out of a mark 3.can anyone help please?

You need to find an IB5 box from a 1.8 escort starter goes on the back not the front could cause some issues also you may have to change the engine mounts been told that 4 speed and 5 speed mounts are diff to allow the extra size of the 5 speed box

 

never knew that.i was told a gearbox from mark 5 escort and sum fiesta fit as long as they dont hav a cradle

 

i have a mk3 escort gearbox in my garage, complete with driveshafts from my old RS1600i.
