What, so you think if something costs £20 MORE than another thing at £1, that it actually costs £19 more?

Don't worry - the 21 pennies will drop any second

yes that's right, its 50p.

Game + battery = £21.

lets say battery costs 50p, then the game must cost £20.50, so that make £21.

No because....

Right??

So if the above quote was correct then, because the toy costs 20pound more than the battery, then the the toy alone would cost 21pound making a total of 22pounds for the toy and batt!(because you are saying the batt is 1pound).

It says the TOTAL cost of the batt and toy costs 21pound therefore the batt must cost 50p.
20pound more than 50p is 20.50 yes?
So 20.50 + 50p =21pounds

Or have i confused it further

50p sounds right

20.50 is 20 more than 50p, 20.50 + 50 = 21

if you want the strictly mathematical approach....turn the sentence into an equation...

A childs toy consisting of a hand held game and a battery costs £21. The Game costs £20 more than the battery, how much does the battery cost?
This means that 2"x" + 20 = 21 (the item is £20 more than the battery....therefore the battery must be half of the total value - 20)

so 2"x"=21-20 (the magic fairy sits on the "=" and inverts functions as they pass over it)

2"x"=£1

"x" = £1 / 2

"x" = 50p

wtf are you lot on about?
if the handheld total is £21 and the game itself is £20 then:

you need to inculde the cost of the battery
the cost of the device you plug the game into
the cost of packaging
and marketing
and shipping
and the retailers cut
so you are all wrong and the telly blokes have made you look like cunts
