Problem is if you tig that up the flange will warp and you will need it re faced. Try making an interference fit between to two and silver soldering.

Remember the survivial of not only your turbo, but your whole engine stems on the integrity of that fitting.

It will need a swage on it at the very least.

But whats going to happen to your fluro-lined hose once it gets 80psi or more of oil pressure through it? It will pop off and the entire contents of your sump will be spewed all over the engine bay and road.

Best case - It will make a mess.
Worst case - It will catch fire and the oil on the road will cause a motorcyclist to come off and go under a lorry.

Ever the optimist, me.

the escort rs turbo uses a oil hose as standard, theres no pressure with the oil return into the sump though.

Why not get a braided one if you're going the custom route?

Fair point, but its still a risk.

There are lots of kits on Ebay, infact I have a brand new one here that I haven't used, where you get a nice machined Alloy flange and a proper fitting. Would save ALL the agro.

i havent had it welded, is your flange for the t2 turbo though? can you send a piccy?

lee- yes proper fittings on the end, not the most flexible hose though! here is my setup, just want to change the flange and heatwrap the downpipe-

Silicone hose and jubilee clips are fine for this application. It's never going to see anywhere near the 80 psi that you mention.

The clearance around the bearings is very small so it only lets a relativley small amount of oil flow past. This combined with a much larger bore exit hose than entrance hose means you will see hardly any pressure in the return.

Hi Rob,

yeah it can be welded with out problem, as long as prep correctly and welded from the plate side.
As Garage 19 said, there is no pressure except crankcase pressure, so will work fine as long as heat wrapped to stop any damage to the hose from the turbo and down pipe.
