Lifted the carpet in my saph and the vents cut in the floor in the front footwells are all rusty and manky, someone must've had to fix these in the past surely..... What did you do, cut it out, or weld a plate on top or what????

 

yes just cut it all out and weld a normal plate on top, did this to my track car

Yep just welded a plate on there after cutting out rust, I was lucky enough to find a section in a scrap car that was perfect.
