Default MOT Question

My rear disc on my car is scored, its not deep but its all the way around the disc. Pads are pretty much new so loads of meat on them etc (not been driven for 5 months)

Will it fail on the disc, or will it be a caution?

Either way its going to get fixed, But if it can pass with it, I'll put it on the back log for a while......

What else should I look for before taking it, Wanna check the car over etc.

hi there as long as the brakes are not too worn and they are working well you shouldnt have a problem take the car on a steep hill and try your hand brake see if it stays or moves things to look for check all your lights indicators etc work dont forget number plate lights doesnt matter about reverse light its not in an mot horn seatbelts make sure there is no play in any of the wheels shocks leaking tyres and make sure there are no holes with in 12cm of and main bits like seat belt brackets etc that should keep u busy for a while ummm thats all i can think of at the mo but i think thats all the main bits

If its just a score you may get away with an advise, its down to each tester but they will usualy only fail if corrosion and pitting.

As long as it doesnt affect the performance you should be alrite. You mite get an advisory, but i dont think it would fail.

as for the discs as long as it not to bad it will be fine will more than likely get an advisory though

ahh.. well the book states clearly under reasons for failure ....interaction with ANY other light.

so its testers discresion...but if the reverse light had a earth fault for example, , and interacted with a testable light...its a fail. for this reason i always check it.

cant fail if it doesnt work,or doesnt interact.

as for heavy...not sure on the wording in the heavy manual,il check tomorow

As said they dont have to work but if they stay on via a faulty switch or somethink it will fail for showing white light to rear,

Also check front drive shaft and steering rack boots for splits and ABS light to make sure it comes on then goes out after engine started,

windscreen for chip's

if they shine white light to the rear they will fail

they have to shine on the number plate not to the rear

Reverse lights arent tested because reverse is not the standard direction of travel. It is tested in a service tho.
