Default Question regarding 200 block please?

What's the standard bore size of a 200 block?

Also, are there some cheap turkish copies going around or something that are supposedly weaker than the genuine Ford ones?

How do you tell these apart from Genuine Ford blocks?

Thanks

Need something definitive before some cowboy buys the naff copies and files the offending identification off before selling them at a premium!

I think calling them copies is a bit strong. They're just made by Turks, that's what's wrong with 'em

The Turkish blocks do have the 99 number stamped and as for standard bore is it not 90,82 in my book

As per Chop, the potentially dodgy blocks were cast with 99 on them - I'm fairly sure Euan had a piccy up somewhere showing the location of the '99'.

The turkish blocks are weaker, proven on numerous engines by JG and also MAD have had problems.

They arent copies though, they are what cosworth themselves have been selling!

They have a 99 on them, which is the year of manufacture as far as im aware.

Bore size is no different to any other cosworth block, and neither is the deck height.

When we say weaker at wot sort of power levels though, i know the MAD team have pushed the 99 block to destruction but wot is a good safe level for them

I thought the turkish blocks were still good for 500bhp, going past this is where problems start? How long did Euans last for on the 99 block before it died?

No one can quote a definitive power number at which they die, but Id be feeling cheated if it happened on a "normal" engine (ie i wouldnt expect an issue under 500bhp)

So is the correct bore size 90.82 then!?

If the later 99' blocks are comfortable at around 500hp then that is plenty for me!

Ill get a pic up of mine in 2 secs.

I got mine direct brand new from Mountune 2 years ago so they aint copies or anything like that.

I have had issues with my block cracking in the cylinder walls and after closer inspection my block seems to have thiner walls than two other older 200 blocks we looked at.

I have ran my block for over 2 years now at various power levels and only really had the prob on 500 ATW spec which i guess is similar to most peoples 600 bhp engines as these are measure on the engine dyno, so anything under this power I would say they are ok.

Any other questions?

99 stamped in bottom left of this pic at the end of a longer line of numbers.
