I've got a new front bumper to fit to my sapph because the old one is a bit tired but I've got no idea how to remove it and I've not had time to look yet How hard are they to change and where does the rail bolt to the chassis? I know you've got the side mounts but I've not found the bolts for the rail yet.

you wont because the bumper is only slides in to the rails

 

Mine has bolts in the rail,horns are connected to it

 

Although the horn is bolted into the rail the square tubes are too short for the bolts position to go through them.

yup. should just pull outta the chassis leg's on rubber block's.just watch for the spotlight wires.

 

That sounds alot easier than I was thinking, no wonder I couldn't find the chassis rail bolts

Fog light wires are long gone hence another reason to change the bumper

THEORY is nice, PRACTICE is often different.
The thorugh bolts onto the side supports seize, nearly always, and sometimes you have to be forceful and yank them off, breaking as little as posible in the process.
There is a easy cheap, less than £1 cure that will fix the problem PERMANENTLY though so don't despair, if you need to be a bit brutal.
Free off the height adjusters whilst the bumper is off as a lot easier to do then!

if you want to improve the security and stop little scrotes from having your bumper off by just undoing 2 bolts, remove the headlights and find the location for the height adjusters in the chassis legs
drill a small hole through the leg and adjuster then put a self tapping bolt through the hole

the headlights will cover the bolt heads and no one will be any the wiser

 

Nice tips guys I can't believe that the bumper is only held on by 2 bolts I'm used to Subaru's where you have to remove pretty much the entire front end and shear loads of bolts in the process

The replacement bumper has a side mount broken so I'm hoping and praying I can salvage the mounts on my old bumper and replace the broken one.

 

You can take the whole side panel fixing bit off, just drill out the rivetts and then re revitt, if you are careful you can reuse your existing trim piece as well.

i've had to glue mine. did it over a year ago so it'll hopefully be hard now!!. but luckily i bought a new moulding yr's ago so gonna have one nice standard bumper an one modified one...

My bumper sags down one side, does this mean the height adjuster has broken?
