Default Gear lever gaitor

Hi all
Can someone who has done this before tell me how to change the leather gaitor, is this done from above so to speak or has the console got to be removed, if its done from above how do you slide it up and off, the pull up reverse mechanism stops it.

Thank you.

Hi

you need to remove the console Mark. There is then a seperate part of the console that sits under it to retain the gaiter. You will have to unpick/unstick the old one it may be glued or stapled. Be careful as you need this in good condition to retain the new one. You will then need to choose how you are going to mount it either by glue or staples, staples is best but they need to be thick to go through both bits of plastic. Once sorted and secured tie the zip tie onto the gear stick and replace the console back.

Dont think ive missed anything, just be careful with the electric window switch when you remove that so as to not snap the little lug off.

Mart.

I garentee you will ruin your window switch plate... i bought a new one, took it off once (very carefully) and now it dont sit in properly, glad ive got another spare, but think ill tuck that away until i sell the car.

Show us pics of the new one fella, are you replacing with an original gaitor?

I used a large staple gun from work. The Gaitor is one of Mr Gaitors From Ebay.

Hi.
thank you for all the replies. I have one from an ebay seller, looks like the one in the previous post. My switch came out fine, and went back in ok too.

Nice picture BTW, does that item that looks like a cig lighter come off easily and self explanitory.?

What a pain in the arris having to remove the whole console, I have water Injection controllers and gauges, radio ect....can't bear the thought of disconecting that lot. I may remove the gearbox and cut a hole in the tunnel....could be easier..
