Ive been a sys admin for a few years now and always used Symantec corp edition. Im basically looking to move away from it as i find it terrible on memory usage. I was just hoping to find some other options that people use.

Can you do me a favour and have a look tomorrow at what the rough mem usage on an xp machine is? Symantec seems to take up about 80mb of mem, which is offensive as far as im concerened.

Will look, but I think McAfee 8.5i uses more. I think its about 90mb which is obscene.

We use symantec corportate edition here to. My pc is currently using 67Mb. To be honest I don't find that obscene at all for us, all ours PC's have a min 1Gb ram so 67Mb is peanuts. The cost and hassle of going with another solution to save a couple of mb's on client PC's just wouldn't be worth it. Another options worth looking at is Computer Associates solution. Can't remember the name (maybe e-trust), used it at the last place I worked.

Kaspersky Internet Security.
Thats after having trialed most of the others. Sophos were a 2nd choice but their buggy central-update software and larger system overhead ruled them out.
Used to use McAfee/Dr Sols in the old days but last time I looked they'd been overtaken by the competition.
As for symantec - I wouldnt touch any of there stuff with a bargepole!
It would appear they stopped writing good software about the same time as DOS/Windows 3.11 died and we no longer needed their tools.
I'm still keeping my fingers crossed they dont completely fuck up 'Backup Exec' having bought Veritas...

AVG allows you to push the client out, but not remove it.

Which I thought was a bit odd
