A turbo that isnt internally gated (or you can wire the wastegate shut on it)
An external wastegate
A pipe from the manifold to the external gate
A pipe from the external gate back to the exhaust to keep it all silenced nicely

Thats about it really, boost control shouldnt need a change in hardware but may need the settings changing depending on how you run it.

Ps 400 quid ish as a ballpark I guess

I'm going to guess... he is running a 'hybrid' and NEEDS to go External wastegate as Dave down the pub keeps talking about his mates 900bhp Skyline GTS....

Just a guess though!

ive got a turbonetics evolution w/g fitted , but then im also run a t34 at 1.5 bar with a screamer pipe(wg pipe is just below the radiator) sounds awesome when wasting.

for starters , you need a external wg and a place to plumb it to , dont think it can be done on the std manifold. my cast manifold has a flange for it , you may need to get a custom manifold fabricated.

external wg's make in car boost control easier , but only become useful with big turbos with high boost

do you need to go for the likes of a Tial/turbosmart branded wastegate or is something like an OBX or other cheaper dare i say 'copy' wastegate going to be adequate?

Like with any branded goods, there are good and bad cheap versions im sure.

Trouble is these days, even some of the better known "copies" are now in fact fake, lol

Under what circumstances would you need an external gate though I thought it was massive boost but it can not be simple as just that, there must be more to it.

Unless his sig is way outta date any external WG will be total overkill...

DV26 and the metering unit....Gating it is way down on priorities IMO
