Exclamation Who are the best people to mapp my motor?

Own a 1988 sapphire cosworth that me and the help of close friends have built, the only part we cant do is mapp it.
Who are the best people for the job, live in hertfordshire

i have a l6 ecu, which ran my std engine. so i dosnt have a chip. the car starts and runs fine, but wont drive it until its being set up, i dont want it to melt![ paronid]



Engine spec:

low comp with valve cut outs[unknown comp ratio]
dark greens
t35
standard head
rs500 cooler
group a pump
group a coil
3bar map sensor
full goose
piper X air filter

any help would really help i need this bk on the road soon[ stop people moaning at me for a waste of a good car] help!!!!

its a shame you dont know your cr, this will make it hard to do off the shelf, which would otherwise have been easy...

may need to be done live

why is your rc breather on the wrong side?

because there is a port in the head and block for breathing on the other side from where his is fitted...

if you notice all rc breathers are in the same place.... directly linked to this port, which vents the sump

There are loads of good tuners who can map it apart from msd, and who are just as good.
Each one may have a slightly different idea about the way they want to do it ie NMS which is quite different to most(stage 1 anyway), but works fine with no problems. Location may be a consideration, as might upgrade to a different ecu, ie one that runs closed loop, L8 for example.

ok...i wont tel you that you have incorrectly fitted your breather then,

im sure you will find out i was right when you blow all your oil seals out the block....

look mate the engine has done at least 10,000 mile since its rebuild and had worked fine in my mates motor before he smashed it up.
so dont tell me a load of bollocks it works fine with out blowin seals.
Still just mapping advise im after not an ear bashin on how shit my car is

i simply tried to tell you you have missed the breather port.....i would want someone to tell me...

on a tech' point. both the cam shafts are feed from the oil pump to lube them as the engine is running. so the inlet side and the zorst side of the cam cover are both linked to the sump. i can see the is would make sence to have it on the inlet side of the cam cover, but as i have said, 'its how the engine came'. saying that the oil seals will pop out is totaly untrue. proved by the engines last owner who did 10,000+miles on it, and he drove it like a twat (at least its a propley built engine).

i have bin told MSD are very good. but its a long way from me and id like a mapper that i can take my car back to from time to time as i upgrade the spec. so london area, not somewhere 150+miles each way.

there is a hole designed in the head and block which will not vent to where yours is,(opposite side) it has its own section in the rocker cover.... sealed by the gasket.

the breather will still work in effect, but the crankcase pressure is going to have to vent up through the return drain for the head......which isnt as good as it could be....

wouldn't worry too much about the breathing on that side of rc as fords idea was to just drill a 8mm hole in the front!!.

Although James is correct about the port on the inlet side of the head there are pleanty of cars that run pretty decent power and have no rocker cover breather at all, I guess at worst breathing from the exhaust side will not be as good as the inlet but better than nothing.

i dont have a rc port on mine trev, i breathe both sides of the block....which is what most bigish power cars seem to do, as the rc port tends to blurt oil into the catch tank

forgot, on a different note, your car looks very clean in the picture . Im an MSD customer as well and they come highly reccomended from me, although I do understand your problem with distance, can reccomend anyone else as I have only used msd with the cossie.

I have the rc one and both sides of the block but i drilled my rc years ago when i only had one other port and im not about to get it welded up lol.

see what i mean, that port goes straight into the sump, which is where your crankcase pressure is.....as i said...seperate port, breathing from sump, not head, sealed by gasket from head.

have a look where your breather is compared to the second link i put up.....your breather is breathing the spark plug chamber.....cant really see why you want to do that

nearest one to you who can live map it is grove garage,i have had my car mapped by them(bajoo does it)and they done a very good job!!then got my car mapped at nms how done a very very very good job!might be going for a 3rd live map at stus soon if i make up my mind so if mileage is a problem grove is the place otherwise NMS or stu

from the pics posted its hard to see but imo i would be very supprised if its breathing the plug chamber it looks like its just on the edge of the exhaust cam chamber. would be interesting to see, as you say a little off topic though

the edge of the cam chamber is the angled bit of the rc, i presumed it was on the flat surface....
