watch for worn clutches - pig to change and not cheap.

with the handbrake on fully; slowly lift the clutch and see if it slips. Also problems engaging gears.

personally i'd put a few more quid to it and go for R plate 911, Boxster's are common and unless you go for a 3.2s you'll be disappointed in performance.

I'd go for earlier 911 for the same money.

Maybe he likes the convertible aspect of the Boxster.... something you wont get for a similar priced 911!

I will get shot down in flames by Porkie and all the other porche-a-philes on here, but I have driven the 2.7 and the 3.2, and I find them very dissapointing to be honest , just not fast in the slightest... I know it's not really what the car is about but they just don't do it for me.

Don't think hes after a super fast car

I had a 3.2 s great car, don't bother with a real early 911 (996) most have little or no spec
and are not worth the extra money (over a 3.2s boxster)
they drive almost the same, are the same inside (upfront) and u get less than 50 extra HP

If they need a clutch (boxster) £900 inc vat fitted genuine parts

I agree with you completely! As much as i love the look of Lee's boxster... it is quite slow. My 3.0 Z4 would have no trouble what so ever kicking its arse!
