Some say I should put the axle stand at the furthest away from the wheel, other say next to the wheel - which is correct?

This is for Ford Focus ST170 (But I'm sure it's the same for normal Focus)
Thanks,

Thanks.
Is it okay to have one fitted on the left side of the car? Or do I have to raise both front sides?
It will only need to be raised for about 20 mins or so.

Not high enough.
I need to work under the car.
Hence using the jacking and supporting it up with axle stand. But not sure if I ned to raise both side or one side?

Last question, I think!
Can I jack up one side, put in axle stand, lower it. Then jack up the other side, put in another axle stand and lower it?
If so, would the 1st axle stand "move" when I jack up the other side?

I think axle stands should be banned, bloody dangerous things IMO.
I use a old railway sleeper cut into squares, as you have a CHEAP nice big area, that is not going to tip like a axle stand.

Yes it will move a little. just be careful as you jack the car up. trolly jacks are meant to move inwards as they jack up since the jacking point moves in a circular path. so push the jack in as you jack. NEVER take your eye off the first axel stand and if its moving too much stop and start again.
JAmes.
