Default clutch cable on 2WD saph anyone?

Hi
got a fairly good spec 350bhp 2wd saph with an uprated paddle clutch and shortshift on it. got a new clutch cable from ford the other day, fitted it and its too long, when the peddles fully depressed it dont engage, so its crunchy crunchy
Took it off again, measured it against the old cable and and its an inch longer. Both got the same part number on, any suggestions why this is?
cheers glen

some clutch cables have a type of internal ratchet adjuster. You fit the cable to both ends, then pull the end of the cable (gearbox end) all the way out and it will 'ratchet' its way back in to self adjust.

didnt think the sierra cables were like this though as they have the gay ratchet adjuster on the pedal end....in fact thinking about it is the pedal adjusted properly on the ratchet?

Same thing happened to me glen, clutch cable went on my 4x4 so we sourced a new one from ford, it was the correct finis code but when we fitted it, clutch pedal operated but wouldn't engage any gears. Local mechanic sussed it was too long by about a half inch. He got hold of another one and it fitted fine. When i returned the wrong one to ford they were adamant it was the correct one. Sure as hell didn't fit though!

righty..
sourced another cable from my mechanic, measured it up and its exactly the same length as the one I got from Ford (too long)
Been told the ratchet thingy on the back of the peddle is self adjusting is this correct?
And also there are 3 different ratchet sizes, identifiable by colour (grey, white and green i think?) I remember fitting a white on to my old saph a few yrs back it was a right pig to do..
Any ideas?
cheers guys
