Default Standard cam in a stage 3 head

Is this even worth considering? I've done a bit of reading and found that one opinion is that it would decrease lag on the T3 and actually improve acceleration over a performance cam.

Well the kent in there sounds worn and i only fitted that because the piper 285 decided to give up on me aswell! I'm going standard or newman, either way, solid lifters.

Unless your selling the lifters with that piper jonnyrsturbo and you've marked them so you know which one went to each of the lobes on the cam it's worthless! Fit that to a head with new lifters and it will rip them to bits in no time!!
Never use a second hand cam with new lifters or vice versa!

Can't find anywhere selling a kit. You know the price of these?

I am interested in the standard cam theory though, especially since I wont have funds to up the boost any time soon.

My turbo is a hybrid T3 so you think it would be a good idea?

try newman themselves for the cam/lifters/double valve spring
how you can contimplate a std cam over a newman i dont know
std cam may be good for over 200bhp but ill gaurentee youll make more power on less boost than you would with the newman over the std

So its a lot better to go newman? I'm only considering it due to the newman probably coming in at about Ł500 and the std would be more less than half that and I've just shelled out a fortune of doing this before!

The wilder cam pushes the power band up. The newman will more than likely make more top end power, but it'll be laggier and take longer to come on boost. You can have well over 250hp with the std item.

Seems like a good arguement for both then. I'm confused!

if car set up right then the lag will be that minimal you wont notice,my car was on full boost by 2800rpm,you wont get much lower than that on a std cam

my newman made more power over my piper 285t2 all thru the rev range,as much as 10-15 bhp@wheels in the mid range

as said its all to do with the set up and rest of engine spec that can make a car laggy

Jambo, regardless of engine spec, a std cam is going to be punchier and come in lower. If i was specing an engine that only made 215 at the wheels, then i would use a newman, but on a stage 2 t3, with a 0.36 housing - it would come in lower than on your graph. After that, it's straight to a t34, a std cam and 240 at the wheels. After that, you can go to a newman cam for 260+ at the wheels.

SO what would you reccomend for a stage 3 head, stage 1 hybrid t3, full exhaust and filter, efi and standard boost, but possibly a 165 chip sometime soon.

just get a standard cam, its good for driveablity and will cost you alot less than the newman both in price and setups.
if you decide to really go mad- 240bhp+ then newman is the only way but that doesn't sound like wot you want- (get some beiges and 195 chip though lol)

your spec is a little mismatched - why only std boost? The head can breathe, so u should be using as much as possible really. With that turbo, i would use a wilder cam than std, as it will come in very low down as it is and you can afford to lose a touch low down for more power.

You're going to HAVE to get it setup regardless of the boost. You defo shouldn't be spending money on expensive cams if you can't get it set up. Into the cost, add the cost of a setup. A chip comses before a cam, unless u'rs is worn or u dont have one.

Yes, my cam is worn hence i have no money for anything, which is why im enquiring about cheaper options. I would love to get a newman and a chip and get it set up, but my budget is more like 300 quid that 1000

Another question, if I bought a standard cam, and new followers, can I use the rockers that came with the kent cam kit or best to change it all? Im hoping that with the money I save i can get a 165 chip too.

standard cam works great in a good flowing head but also depends who did the porting on the head

there's a few i have seen that flow worse than standard so make sure its from a well known company

Well i rang my local motor factors afterwards and purchased a std cam kit for Ł110 which i'm sure isn't the cheapest but its a fair price. Gonna get that fitted, run in, and hopefully i'll get 165 chip and have it all set up in a few weeks.
