Default Help with alarm!

This should most prob' be in the tech section.....but i really need urgent help!

One of my cars, MK2 Golf GTI 8v has a Cobra alarm on. Today I decided it would look good with gold terminals on the battery instead of the metal old things. Cleaned up all terminals, earthing points etc and put all back together. Tried starting my car and it would not start, a constant buzzing noise with a horrible smell of petrol. Kept trying, hazard lights flashing, dash illumination gone, wipers going on and off etc etc.

Anybody know how to strip a Cobra alarm or is there a way I can fix it?

Sorry for putting this in General section but need my car for a very important appointment at 11am tom' morning.

Many thanks in advance

Also if on the dash you have a button for the alarm, then try this:

Press it once and it will flash when you press it, then 1 sec laer it will flash but for longer. Do this 4 times all at once

If you've been given the key, there should be somewhere to put it.

Have you got an invoice for the alarm fitting in the service history, maybe you could ring them up and ask where it is?

Also - You sure it's the alarm that's at fault. Did you tocgh anything else, or short out anything by accident? The Mk2 had some daft oil pressure warning buzzer that sounds when the dash fucked up - which is sounds like your has.

Have you done simple stuff like checking fuses etc?
