Default ...a question for you all

...if you was looking to buy a car and you had it down to 2,which would you choose and why.....REMEMBER ITS JUST THESE 2 CARS FORGET ANYTHING ELSE!

Noble M12 GTO 3R (352bhp)
Ultima GTR (400bhp)

..now i cant afford a ultima with a 720bhp engine but apparently you can get one for circa 10k....this is leading me to this car starting price around 32k but the noble starting at 25k...i want a road car to blow my mind, not an everyday car so mpg/reliability aint too important (i own an f-car and Ducati remember) ROFL ..i love my E55 and could just tune that but i feel the need for outrageous.

..try not to hate its a serious topic and apologies if you have jealousy in you that causes you to post negatively..i dont mean to wind you section up....infact have you tried the block feature or is it a love to hate routine?

oooooooooh i think the Noble is Prettier..... but the ultima is rarer!!!

so i guess, if you could find an ultima in a pretty colour youd be on to a winner in my books!

i LOVE the look of nobles and the noise they make is awesome!

BUT i've heard horror reliability stories and there are at least 2 people on pf who've had one and had problems.

I think i'd still prefer it tho

Noble for me. Always liked them and think the M12 is the nicest shape. Have seen one in the flesh as well and imo, its an astonishing road car for the road

Nobles are common in the grand scheme of things, in fact so much so that I was stood 10 foot from one on friday and didnt even bother to look at it, but if it was an ultima though, Id have been really interested in it.

For round a track, I reckon I would take the noble, but for scaring you shitless and making an impression, Ultimate all day long.

It's going to be cheaper to buy a life size poster that you can nail to your garage wall, it's not like you will ever drive it!

Maybe get two posters one for each side?

Because a lot of the Ultimas are home built, I would need to know the full spec on one before making a decision. I would really want a high spec factory one and then it would be be no competition. But I would chose the Noble over a poorly specced / built Ultima.

Maybe Phil should buy a kit and build one, he likes DIY stuff IIRC

Would you be happy to topspeed test it for him at brunters with a 750bhp 572CI motor in it if he does, as I suspect he wont want to himself

The 352 noble would walk all over your Merc everywhere except a motorway.

Probably a much more "sensible" option than the Ultima, so depends on what you want from a car really?

The noble WONT scare you in a straight line, a top spec ultima will.

Phil,
Just work out the power to weight, the Noble is around 1000kg, so has 352bhp per tonne. What does your barge weight - 1800kg? Even with 500bhp, that is only 277bhp per tonne .

I would be looking for a well specced factory built Ultima with APs and the Porsche gearbox.

Built an ultima with my uncle and no i was not just the spanner boy either,

Bloody hard work, brough the full kit and the engine came from a guy in the states, 550bhp and run in for Ł7.5k!!

Gearbox came from a boxter S.

Build one phil it will be more rewarding than buying one thats already done, pm if you need anymore details.

the M10 and M12 used the ford box
the M15 uses a noble box as it's got a totaly different layout so you can put more power through

Build your own Ultima

I REALLY don't think you have any idea how utterly SHITE Nobles are.... I used to LOVE them and even considered one as they are blindingly quick on track out of the box. (Shame they don't have sump baffles as standard... so even a moderately quick driver WILL fuck the engine on track!!)

I know 3 people that have owned Nobles. One of them said it made his TVR Tuscan seem well built, well designed and reliable.... now THATS scary....

Forgot to add, you cant go wrong building it as all the boxes come numbered when they are delivered, when you finish one lot you get the next batch delieverd.........

Also the technical bit on pistonheads with these in is an absolutes gold mine for ideas and easy way around any problems that come up.

Lots of votes for building one then.

You always go on about how you like DIY on cars, so now is your chance to do the ULTIMATE project as a DIY mechanic

Go for it
