Default Pulsar gtir

Just bought one with 300 bhpish. looks ugly as you like but drives and goes really well. Just wanted peoples opinions on them and any weak points or troubles to look out for.

gearboxs are weak if using wheels bigger than 15s nd clutches are very awkward to do. but apart from that i like em they look like a warthog on steroids lol thanks tony

Mate, do your self a favour, and sell it now,... seriously

Now im back home, and not up at an RAF base, Mines going back together as I have time to work on it and then its going up for sale!

They are good cars, they have alot of potential, But believe me they are just a fucking arse ache

I've had everything go wrong on mine, from doors jamming, to water pumps, to every turbo gasket, to windows just randomly shattering..

gearbox is the weakest point of the car, casing especially! along with the selector forks.

14psi, and there fucking rapid, makes about 260 - 290bhp, depending on age of car, and mods

clutches dont last long at all, and are a cunt to change

I just recently see one blow a rad also on the rollers, so an uprated one is a must, as anything over 10psi, and they dont like the heat. Ive done 2 radiatiors in 7 months...

Whats the spec of the car btw?

that the one at PE?

Was just there today and saw it being dismantled and apparently someone blocked off the overflow hose or something on it that why it blew the top half of its rad off!

Ive had, 366bhp GTiR built by hiteq, R33 GTR, Evo 4, Escort cosworth 410bhp + and i'd have my GTiR back over all off them anyday.
I had just one gearbox break in 4 years ownership, and i did lots of runs at santapod. There the same as any old car things pack up, mainly depends if you got a goodun thats been looked after.

i have to disagree with you there radders mate

2 of my mates have gtirs, and theyve both been pretty reliable, both done a track day in them too.

one melted a piston but it was running 20psi on standard engine, since its been rebuilt and forged its not been a problem, even with the gt30 the cooling systems been no problem either. The standard box didnt go but he got sa bargain shotpeened one fitted now, so time will tell...

one thing that definitely needs upgrading immediately is the brakes... theyre shocking as standard

Its just because I've been bitten HARD mate by this one, Just silly things that I'd have never thought would break and cause so much agro as it has! LOL

Fucking hate the car now with a passion, and can't wait to see it gone

shame, as I do 'love' driving it...

might just be your one rad. you just happen to have the odd one out.

im sure if you bought another one you wouldnt have the EXTENT of the problems you had on your current one. and the pe one there was black/charcoal grey with a white bottom grille mesh.

2 of my mates have owned the same car n given it lots of abuse over a few years, never given too much grief it did bust a gearbox but only once the power was upped considerably, its like every car,if its not done properly its likely to be unreliable

Talking

hi we work on a lot of pulsars and they have a very bad name for bottome ends and gearboxs

well i have been working on them for about 5 years now and we have had some very good 1s in from a good std engine with fmic 300bhp to std engine with bigger turbo running 370
and both driven hard

the biggest problem is people buy them for cheap and cannot afford to repair them so just get rid or fix on the cheap and sell

Thats the main problem with them these days, although they're cheap to buy they're not cheap to run or maintain!

Ive had mine nearly 6 years now and although i'm on my 4th gearbox (mainly due to my lack of mechanical sympathy and a fair few 6000rpm launches) i havent really had many problems. The engine has done 131,000 miles now and never been rebuilt and its still happily running 1.5 bar on standard internals!

I put a set of 330mm AP 4 pots on a while back, the standard brakes are the worse thing about the cars and not even man enough for 220bhp let alnoe when you start tuning them!

I think with mine, It was standing for a while, I did check it over, but obviously not good enough, I bought it off a mate with good trust as he never had any problems what so ever! After a weeks driving, I started to get probs.... and they didn't stop
