Default Cam shalf seals (replacing)

Took my car out for a good spin today first time all winter and when i got back noticed oil runing down the block, on closer inspection it looks lik one of the cam shaft seals is weaping.

How easy are these to change? in the book it says remove the ball race.. do you need to do this as its looks complex..

NO need to remove bearing.
Just take belt/pulley off, lever old one out, install new one.
Use a VITON one if you don't want the leak back, they are about £9 each, might as well do both whilst there.
The seal size is 35-47-7.

T/belt off, pulley off, lever it out and tap the new one in. use the old one when tapping it in so you dont damage the new one or you can buy special tools for refitting cam seals i just use the old ones.

John

you may well find that replacing them wont cure the leak, had this a couple of times now and its usually always the half moon seals, these drip onto the cams and it looks as if its coming from the cam seals - they are your next port of call.

Your right!! It didnt cure the leak.. It could be the half moons I guess but ive replaced them allready when i refitted the rocker.. I even sealed them with some gasket sealer.. The only other thing is the cam bearing seal i guess..

The one area most forget is the CAM CAP, they leak between the join of that and the head, and of course it is exposed at the front either side of the cam pulley.

NO, the cap that holds the bearings at the front of the cams, the r/c goes onto this at the front, BUT the join between the cap/s and the head can leak, so always use a LITTLE sealer here.

Here you go

Pink circles show where Tabetha means. Green lines is where you should put a small amount of sealer as well as the usual drop on the end of half moons.
