MSD small turbo power upgrade
I remember reading about Stu's project to develop a series of new power upgrades for the ST Escos whilist retaining the original EEC-IV ECU.
Thing is - the original thread petered out last year, and I haven't read anything to say that the project was ever finished.
Does anyone know what happened to it? If Stu did crack it, what power outputs are achievable now, and how much are they?
Cheers
Mark

Hi mate,
my car is the test mule, it has just had a ground up rebuild, and it is booked in on Friday for a few jobs to finish it off, then run it in and off to MSD.... Hoping for 420ish BHP on EEC IV on a T38, I will keep you all posted of the progress, but stu was 99.5% happy with the T34.48 conversion, just needs to finalize a few details before it goes "live"

1) Big turbo escort or 4x4 saff exhaust manifold, as the collector port is much bigger than the small turbo one. You might be able to port the small turbo one, but it's easier just to buy one. £50-100 second hand
2) T34.48- with 360° bearing. Turbo was brand new, non-exchange direct replacement for the T25, I bought mine from Ian@Racetek, not sure what they are now but very reasonable.£700ish
3) Water pipes to fit the T34, the T25 ones will not fit as they are smaller. Bout £20 second hand off a 4x4 saff or big turbo escort.
4) Bosch 023 intank fuel pump, good foir 500ish BHP, either from Boschman off here or Matt lewis, don't need the fitting kit is a waste of time, about £85-100
5) set of bigger injectors, 55lbs at the moment might change.
6) MSD chip module, not sure on the Price Stu is thinking of yet.
7) 3 Boost pipes, airflow meter to turbo inlet, turbo to intercooler and intercooler to throttle body, and a crossover pipe (RS500 style) with recirc valve pipework- you have to run a recirc dump valve on small turbos- Matt lewis £130-180ish ( still in development to make it look tidy)
8) Recirc dump valve. Same as std 2wd/4x4 one, can have a second hand one for about £10 or I have bought a new alloy one for about £50
There are a few other odds and sods, but when the conversion is complete I will write up a fully detailed how-to guide with pictures and exact costings and suppliers. Sorry it has taken so long but there has been well over 13k invested in this project since last april

I keep scouring the forum to see if you've posted any pictures of it up as I really can't wait to see it, miss it like mad
It looks very sorry for itself at the moment, I managed to rip the entire front splitter pack and hockey sticks off after about 3 months of owning it
, hit a huge puddle just around a corner on a pitch black road
, and the paint has suffered a bit of "garage rash" from being stood for 12 months, and working on the engine bay etc
, but it will be returned to it's former glory and better, for a 100,000 mile car it was very tidy really
, the engine was mint when it came apart bar the small amount of damage from the melt down ( head gasket oil leak into #4 was the cause, made it run lean
).

car is in my mates garage reciving finishing touches before being run in
.. Unfortunatly due to family issues i just have not really had time to do much on it, so progress has been slow

Still ongoing mate, got immobiliser issues I can't sort, has stumped me, my mechanic and 2 auto sparks
.. Fucking thing is almost done, just wont fire up... Still plodding along!

Is just a pain, no spark no fuel, but pump is priming. Changed crank sensor for brand new item, had it on the diagnostic machine, changed the EDIS4 unit it was saying was duff, still nothing. Auto lekky had a play last week, and it fired into life, but a few days later nothing again
...Both the clifford and ford PATS system seem to be working as advertized, but somthing is stopping it running.
Next thing is a new ECU
, as the immobilizer runs through them on the small turbo.
