i listen to alot of everything, depends on my mood, i like alot of rockier stuff, but love classical...
this is my dilema.. as you can see i find some gear that compliments some music but not other types... im looking for a good all-rounder
has to be seperate pre-amp and twim mono-bloc power amp set up... dual bi amped and bi wired ...hence the 606's ive not tried those yet... or the X200's

I'm a huge fan of Naim and Avondale - a sort of home grown copy of Naim. I hang around on the Pink Fish forum at www.pinkfishmedia.net where you'll find good advice and used Naim kit for sale.

I have an Avondale 260Z which is an improved Naim 250 driving Epos ES14s - classic 80s speakers that still sound very fresh. My source is a modified Ipod (sounds better than a CD player and much neater) into a passive pre-amp.

I have to say I don't like Linn products much. I'm surprised you're buying new. As he says, there's so much on Ebay. The Naim NAP500 and 300s come up quite a bit at a fraction of the new price.

And if you are thinking of Quad monos I would suggest looking at Avondale M130 mono blocks. There's a guy on the Pink Fish forum that sells them and will demo in the Essesx area. They sound amazing apparently. Naim beaters!

I was just going to say Listen-Inn in Northampton, thats where I got my Naim kit, with a pair of Rega Ela speakers....

Went one weekend got some gimp who loved Linn stuff, talked for ages, got no demo.

Went the following weekend, got 'the saturday boy' who was actually a bloke in his mid 40's who just worked there at the weekend, had a proper demo, got some really good advice and have been chuffed to bits with everything we bought.

Amp wise depends whether you want to bi amp a pair of stereo power amps or have a pair of mono blocs, Quad would work with the tannoys I reckon.

Do you want valve or solid state?

Edit: Ahh a fellow pink fisher, you must be rich if you're into hi-fi and cossies
if i wanted valve gear i would build it myself, ive done 6 amplifiers already.. and now i AM too a fellow pink-fisher lollol

i have been in a few times.... i find them hard to deal with purely becuse i am a total tech head and the people who sell the gear arnt, so when im taking about damping factors or slu rates or butterworth slopes... i get a pretty gone-out look from most..

flippin heck you sound just like me... i would have said the same thing.. and i do listen before asking questons.. i like to have a certian type o/p system you see, i dont like the bi-polar but do like class A becuase it creates a certain type of distortion that MY ears like, so i will know just by talking tech if its worth listening to or not, becuse i do this for a living i know what i want to hear and how i want to hear it, weather it be transmittion line speakers or band pass, i know i will likw them..
as with ampification i can hear the difference between certain damping factors or if the amlifier has a longer slu rate than im used to i will not like it...
so as you can see its al relitive to me, becuse im an audio engineer i do know what i like..
its like me saying you buy a cosworth for how it drives only...LIKE FUCK lol
