Default civic type r ecu options

can anyone help me!
a friend of mine is building a kit car, and has bought the front end of a type r, so that he can use the engine and loom! but he has no ecu or key for the ignition ( which i think goes hand in hand with the ecu)

he can buy a new ecu from honda for 800 quid, but he would need the key for the car aswell! can the ecu be flashed so that he wouldnt need to use the key???

he is also thinking about buying another engine and modding this one,,(throttle bodies bla bla) so manybe a standard ecu isnt the best way to go! is there anyone plug and play ecus out there for a type r? anyone used it?

thanks
gareth

Well basically!

My m8 owns his own jap import/perf tunin co here in Bristol!

He gets stuff cheap cheap from Jappy land! Anu7 he bought a few bling mugen ecu’s! but they don’t work with English spec’d type r’s because of the codded key immob system on them! But if yer m8 ditches all that & fit say a push button start he should be able to use the mugen ecu!(this i need to check) Which will b perfect for a tunned engine!

Lewis- Hondata is a proper replacement mappable ECU that uses the existing loom and sensors and is VERY trick, lots n lots of features, very capable.

From what ive seen, MUGEN ECUs have just been chipped std ones
