Default Fan Switch :(

As some of you may or no my car overheated the other day and im sure its the fan switch at fault, as when i take the plug of it an join them together with a wire they always come on, so i have now taken the switch off to get a new one but i wanted to test it first so i boild the kettle an put it in the hot water an nuffin so i thought gerat easy fix, but then i put it in a pan an put it on the oven and after a will it worked then didint then did.

so my qestion's are:

what temp should they work???
should the kettle make it switch??
does this sound like i have a faulty switch an should be ok with a new one??

thanks

(sorry about spelling??

Right ok, iirc the fan switch should kick the fans in at 87-88 degrees, if you fit a new switch and the fans still don't come in and car continues to overheat its more than likely that your rad is blocked and restricting the flow of coolant,

to test when car is at running temp, feel the rad top n bottom, if top is red hot and bottom is cool its new rad time

and I don't know what switch that is but it aint a cossie one

Just put a new cossie one on for the price, don't know what the one pictured is off, but get part number and check at fords if you want.
The fans will typically come on 5-8 C ABOVE the max temp of the stat, as otherwise they will fight all the time.

Yes it should have worked when you boiled it in the kettle. Change the switch and see. Flush the rad out with clean water before you put the new switch back in. Just to make sure its nice and clean.
