Default ST24 Daily Driver?

Guys, I want to change the wife's fiesta for something a bit bigger; i'm a tall guy fed up with driving with my knees up round my head... and it won't be long before the little'uns arrive on the agenda!!!

I want to get a Mondeo ST24 but I gather their not too hot on the economy front?!... it will only be doing about 6-10 miles a day (I know this is both a good and a bad thing!)

Do anyone use these for these for this sort of mileage?

I know its not a ford but i've been offered a 1999 Civic VTI pretty cheap that i'm tempted by (I know its not a Ford... )

I used one on and off for months, whilst friend was away(his car).
I used to get up to 38mpg when driven normally, but not my style, so around 26/28mpg average for me, could get it to less than 20mpg though if I wanted.

Im on my second ST24 now and for the money they are a fantastic car

Drive it sensible and it wont hurt the wallet but obviously if you like hitting the red line on the limiter then its gonna drink he juice

Fantastic car to drive and so comfortable you wont regret it, just get the water pump upgraded from the plastic impellor to the metal impellor (plastic one breaks) they are only £45 for the new metal one

If the car has any ticking noises from the engine just walk away as thats the sign that one of the head gaskets is on way out !!

Also if the alternator is on way out the battery light will flicker on and off when its rev'd hard so if test driving give it some beans in 2/3rd gear

To make sure the secondries are opening up the car will feel sluggish to start but once you hit 1900 revs thereabouts i cant quite remember exactly it will feel like a turbo kick in and the car will start pulling hard and sound fatastic !!

Other than that its general fordy niggles like shite wishbones and droplinks lol

Had mine from nearly new (8 yrs), done about 130k mls and have no intention in selling it for a while. Only repairs have been front wishbones (bushes wear), although my alternator is gettgin tyred now.
Brilliant family cars that are pokey enough for daily use. And now they are getting on a bit are an absolute bargin.

Secondarys open up around 3400rpm, and the motor should realy pick up at this point, if it feels flat from here onwards then there is a secondary issue.

MPG, average town driving 27
motorway 32

Would highly recommend these, my best change was grooved disks, braded brake lines, decent pads and fresh 5.1 brake fluid as i never thought the brakes were great from new.

K&N induction kit gives the V6 a fantastic soundtrack.

Even taken mine on track twice and had great fun.

Had my w-reg ST24 for about 4 years now. It get used everyday for work (contracts manager) and since I've had it I've put 35k on the clock. Fantastic car, had no issues with it. First thing I did was change the water pump to metal as suggested above. The front wishbones are making a racket at the moment, so thats the next thing to do once the service is due later in the year. Put a cone filter on and they make the best nosie ever V6 grumble.

Would highly reccomend it as a daily drive, family car or a track day/weekend monster. Plus at the price a good one can be bought at its a crime not to.
