Had a small oil leak the other week and it was comming from the corner of the half moon seals.
Ordered another gasket set from woodford and set about fitting it. Used hylomar around the half moons to make sure.
Been for a nice drive and its leaking worse then before and again from the two half moon seals!!!! ARRRRGGGGHH

My brand spanking engine is all oily too, so now needs a good clean!

 

krl, when you ordered the half moons, are they genuine ford?

the replica ones woodoford sell are thinner and shorter (orange)

the ford ones are clear and dont leak, also, i dont use a rocker cover gasket, no leaks

Yes they are woodford orange ones, but were told Gen ford!

i have ordered from ford this time and these are orange but in motorcraft packs.........

 

As andy said m8 gen ford ones are clear and don't leak,2 sets of orange ones leaked on my saph.

 

Orange ones are fine on my car with some instant gasket near the ends

 

The new one ive just bought are Gen ford in motorcraft packets and are orange!???



I just want to do some running in miles not keep fighting oil leaks due to ford making a crap gasket system

 

genuine ford half moons used to be blue, then orange, for the last year or so they sometimes come in orange, sometimes clear.
Karl, i use a 'three bond' sealer, its one of the best i've found for this kind of thing.

 

i have had orange ones too sorry karl, but the last few have been clear

woodford send reps unless asked for genuine ford

 

Lets hope when i re try this week it sorts it! Really pisses me off oil leaks especially on an engine done 170 miles!!

 

cosworth engines are prone to leak oil .
they are shitty when it comes to the design of the front oil seals,i mean there is an o ring,sim ring,rocker cover casket,,and the half moons..i mean..herrooo.stupid design.buuut...
make shure all the surfaces are clean and straight..maybe do a slight reface on the rocker cover.
im gonna try out a new sealer that i bought at my work.its supposed to be verrry good.

 

Dont worry man, mine leak like fuck! Stops the underneath of the car going rusty anyway! lol.
