On the 26th of Feb 2008 BBC RADIO 4 Broadcast File on 4 at 8pm.The programme was full of slander and complete lies against the Sikh Community,the reporter and producers made claims such as Sikhs have joined hands with Al Qaeda,UK Born Sikhs recieve training at Pakistani camps,lies that Sikh leaders give speeches to encourage militancy and terror from Pakistan over the internet there is no evidence of this on the web,Sikhs were falsely accused of bombing Air India in 1985 no Sikh has been proven guilty for this bombing,Among other lies were that the Sikh Homeland in Panjab is in the midst of a militant insurgency,Sikhs in the UK fund terrorism,UK Sikhs support terrorism through temple funds,Sikhs are forging links with Islamist terror groups,Sikh temples are becoming breeding grounds for Abu Hamza style Extremist preaching,the list is endless,This has had a huge effect on the average public who is uneducated ,Sikhs already get attacked due to mistaken identity after 9/11 .By broadcasting statements like the above:ie:Sikhs are with Al Qaeda this increases the risk of innocent Sikhs getting attacked.Sikhs in no way or shape or form support or fund terrorism and neither are we with Al Qaeda and nor do we receive any training for any purpose from them,their is no proof that Sikhs have carried out acts of terror as said in the programme these are lies and amount to slander of the UK Sikh Coummunity,we are disgusted by the BBC and at how low their standards have become,and urge OFCOM to take swift action against them.

i did hear the story and then dismissed it as propoganda by soemone who didn't have a clue

we ain't terrorists in any way shape or form, we just kick off if peole ty to fuck us over, and the last time that happened was way back in 1984 in historical terms, but there was a small bit of rioting last year when some fella decided he was going to be the next guru, that caused a bit of a ruckus

 

Fookin religion pisses me off, nothing but trouble.

Why are people not proud of the place they live and just make it a better place no matter what colour their skin is.

I'm british / english and proud of it. And would like britain / england to be a nicer place to live without tossers trying to change it for the worse.

I always thought Sikhs and Muslims were totally away from each other, bit like Christian and Protestant, so wouldnt exactly join forces?

Ie Muslim, Sikh, Hindu etc are all very very different and not always exactly friendly with each other?

historically the actual peole and religeons are a bit blurred, you can have afghani sikhs as well as afghani muslims, but it's them lot from the middle east that started the problems when they wanted people to convert to islam or die and so you had a fairly long and drawn out conflict in intrests

we all get along just fine when we need to but then you have the problems of partion which caused more ructions
india is more commonly known as hindustan because of all the hindu's that live there and when pakistan was created they split what we sihks afectionate know as khalistan (us being followers of the khasla) so we were a bit unfortunate

now this program seems to make out that sikh extremists have joined up with the taliban to discuss how to blow shit up, but that's about as far removed from the case as you could imagine, it's like the welsh starting trouble, it's just not going to happen is it but if the english and the scots were fighting over wales then they'd have something to say about it thats for sure

so in this example, it's like the welsh joining up with the ira to blow up bit's of scotland, which as you can probably figure out, is a bit more far fetched that ridiculous

i have yet to see the program in the links provided so until i do i can't comment, but others may have so that's who this is aimed at realistically

 

Erm, you feel that a tabloid newspaper and the BBC are incorrect in whatever they write/broadcast. I have no issues with this, so fill yer boots and get moaning about how your misrepresented etc etc, however, can you categorically state that NO SIKHS whatsoever are engaged in any terror activites?

I read the article and not for one minute did I think, Oh shit, the fellas I work with are all out to blow me up. I just thought, daft buggers, there's bad in all races/religions.

If not then why worry about the press? I've read some of the links you provided and there seem to be some keyboard warriors out there. A few folks talking about the prophet Mohammeds cartoons and how they were stopped from being published therefore Sikhs should stop a repeat of the programme being shown. Almost as if, its good enough for Muslims to show how they are aggrieved, so perhaps we should.

So now your wanting your religion to act as a sensor? Can't help but recall the fuss created when certain Sikhs were unhappy about a stage show in Birmingham!!!!

as i said, i've not read the articles or seen the program so i can't comment until i have,but atthe same time i can't say that NO sikhs are involved in dodgy stuff but the saying goes:
not all muslims are terroists, but it seems that all terroists are muslim

i brefily remember something in birmingham as well last year but can't put my finger on what it was, if you would care to refresh my memory i can tell you why peole are kicking off about it

what i can tell you is that we don't have other people complain about what might offend us, if it offends us we will tell you about it, same with the french wanting to ban all religous symbols and wanted us to remove our symbols of sikhism, not going to happen as it's not like wearing a cross, its like getting your hair cut or not wearing a turban or the like, it's difficult to explain but it's not difficult to understand once you understand, if you know what i mean

there is a eureka moment and you get it and then you see what al lthe fuss is about

i'm now going to watch and read what all the fuss is about and then i'll get back to you

and yes, it was difficult to come to terms with what happened with chris benwa as a cose friend of mine knew him in a professional capacity

Sikhism, is this not the main religion of India? And isn't the whole reason for Pakistan coming into being down too the fact the Indian Sikhs and Muslims where at each other pretty much like the Catholic/Protastant thing in Ireland? And until quite recently (may still be happening) the 2 countries where pretty much at war with each other over the Kashmeer? Punjab? Somewhere anyway... And again in Srilanka, there is a whole Sikh/Muslim Confrontation?


If thats all correct, (like I say I could be totally wrong) why would any Sikh even want to join with the Muslim Extremists? I know the whole point of the complaint is that there aern't but I don't get why they would report they are.

i think i've listened to enough crap, the guy doing the documentary is tring to find similarities with the same sort of thing as al quaeda

and when he starts to translate things differently to the way the guy is on about then it's fairly easy to disregard his comments

basic shit stiring and the like, but just because he finds someone who can't articulate his feelings properly in the english language, but seeing as most of my family in india is supportive of the group that is "banned" over here, but some are also against the formation of a seperate sikh state it's a but difficult to explain without going on into a long winded rambling post

the fact that you can't get a visa to go from india to pakistan and the fact that parts of punjab is in pakistan and part of it is in india means that you are obviously going to have sikhs going to visit their families in pakistan and in india, and that's what his whole story is based upon

and the guy who thinks that there is a fair amount of corruption going on in the finances, the temples only income is by volentary donation and he recons that there was Ł500-600k going missing in the books year upon year for 9 years, what he failed to tell them was that most of this money goes into the running of the temple

way way back, 100's of years ao, islam was the middle east and hinduism was in the indian subcontinent
islams spread was being pushed by the ruling moguls with the basics that you converted or you were killed
seeing as the people in what is now know as the punjab bore the brunt they rose up and because the sikh religeon
when the british gave india it's independance it was split into india and pakistan with india being mainly hindu and pakistan being mainly muslim but the language is still fairly similar

but yes, the majority of sikhs live either side of that border and of the 22 million sikhs in the world, it's a fairly small group of people when you think that we are probably outnumbered by the hindu's probably 50:1 so they aren't really going to give up a far larger proportion of their country to a much smaller population of sikhs

 

also, the sri lanka thing is tamil based but the kashmir district is another part of the problem

i think that it's just a case of where has all this money for buying tanks and stuff gone?

if we were going to start a revolution and buy ourselves munitions and armoury then i think you'd have heard about it by now

The B'ham thing was surrounding a play where a girl was killed, I think at a Sikh place of worship and the local Sikh community decided that they did not want their religion portayed this way. Now, I have no problem with the venting their anger, but when they used/threatened violence in order to put their views across then the line was overstepped, all IMHO of course (but then I live in a democracy, or at least I thought I did!)
