Smile Compressors and Air Tools

Guys,

Just ordered myself a compressor and various air tools for my home garage, just surfing around and notice that some sites say that air tools require lubrication and oiling, are there any guidelines on how and how often etc ?

Also how often are you supposed to change the compressor oil ?

All this is new to me

Cheers
Paul

Generally I'd run some oil through the tool every day unless you're not usuing it. I knew a man who still had all his air tools despite using them for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. He used to fill them with oil at the air fitting and leave them upside down filled with oil over night, every night. Look after it and it'll last a while.

pretty sure you can get in-line lubrication devices, all of our air at work ( RAF Hanger ) has lubricated supply, so you don't need to fuck around oiling tools, just get on with it , so there is no chance of forgetting to pre-oil anything.... Must be able to get somthing like that for a small compressor?

you need oil to pube them up for the moving parts etc

if you are spraying you need to have others tuff to filter out the oil

you can get in line oilers as well

the best place i've found for this sort of info is machine mart, but it does also depend on how long you are going to be using the tools for and don't forget to drain the compressor every night otherwise the water inside tends to rust it up inside out

if you don't want to go in line oiler then a few drops of specific air tool oil in the connection every morning will do the trick

Does all this apply to infrequent use ?

I'll only be using them occasionally for diy purposes and I'm not talking about snap on tools and huge compressors etc................

Dojj............... surely you don't have to drain a compressor after each use ?

it's the same with all air tanks mate
even the ones on coaches and trucks and stuff

if you leave them for a few days and then drain them watch the green snot that comes out

as for the "pube" sorry, i meant to say "lube" and wish to apologize for any unnessecary suffering i may have caused with my remarks

I fitted mine with an electric ball valve, so everytime the mains plug is pulles it releases the air from the tank, far faster than a normal drain one.
It is best to drain everday, I have never once oiled my air tools, though know I should.
I have never changed the oil in my compressors either as if doing it as often as they say, it is actually now more costy effective to just use it and abuse it then buy another, depending on size etc(50 litres in my case), they are so cheap now.
My sip is now 12 years old, the last 25 litre one was Ł49 at ALDI's.

no need for inline oiler cos they are shite just put a drop of oil down the end of the air tool every now and then an it will be fine.Change the oil in the comp maybe once a year and thats all they need just use a car oil like 15/40.Probably only need to drain the air reciever once a week it depends on how often u use it and the weather also has an effect as if its damp the air drawn in is damp and hence you get damp air in the air reciever so more water.Hope this helps you mate

You can buy a regulator with a built in oily. These are handy thing to use, if your not going to remember to oil your tools. I would change the compressor oil atleast once a year, but use proper compressor oil. Remember to check your oil level quite often, you dont want it to seize.
